Thing is, before the invention of the Railroad, the fastest way to travel was by boat.
Britain is covered in navigable rivers and surrounded by sea, they got pretty well mixed up.
In-breeding happens in mountainous regions where travel, even today, is difficult. Look at the appalachians for a good example.
