I've experienced a nightmare, not the word we use for bad dreams, but the actual mythological creature.
I didn't know about them before I saw one in my sleep and looked them up.
It basically started as a dream about a emaciated cronelike owl/woman hybrid, with big yellow eyes and hundreds of icepick like teeth.
She was sitting on my chest, stripping pieces of skin off of my body with fingers with too many joints on them and long sharp nails.
I could feel the pain of every stripped piece and it bothered me quite a bit every time I saw her eat them.
After a while of pain and pure terror, I willed myself to wake up, only to see her still sitting on my chest, looking down at me.
I forcibly rolled over, heard her go bump on the floor and ran to the light switch.
Once the light was on she was gone, so I went back to bed and spent the next hour calming down until I fell to sleep.

Well I do have some ideas about how that could come to pass.
You could argue about archetypes of fear being prevalent in different cultures. Think of aliens for example, people didn't really complain about being abducted by aliens at night before they became a popular antagonist in books and radio plays.
A witch or a shadow person would be scary in and of themselves, the witch for her unknown powers of influence and shadow people ofr being the unknown personified. They have also been part of our folklore for ages.
People of previous ages were haunted by demons, many current people are haunted by aliens.
It could just be a psychological archetype, that we instinctually fear and thus similarities occur.
I still think it is weird that I saw a nightmare before knowing of them though.

I mean I've had running nightmares where something horrible is chasing me, but never an actual real life animal. It has always been some sort of amalgamation of horns, claws, teeth and eyes. With too many of all of them.
We've been afraid of the animals you mention for ages, but we've also had ways of dealing with them for ages. Each animal has a different response from us.

People have see that creature in the same woods since, well forever as far as I know.
There is even a note in the town hall from the early 1700's about a attack. A couple had been cutting down trees in the same area to build a home, something came screaming from the woods and grabbed the man, and dragged him into the woods. Same throughout the history of this place.
This kind of creature isn't (according to folk tales) this aggressive usually but can turn "evil" if the nature is disturbed enough.
I think building a town and mining for copper and other metals is enough. Like they did here.

Also (had to look this one up) in 1871 there was a mining team working out in the same woods. 44 strong men, 2 women (cooks) and three kids working as "mailmen".
On the 2nd of June the entire crew abandoned their site, against work orders and headed for the village.
Everyone refused to say why, no one was hurt but everyone looked terrified.
Took almost two years before some of the workers and one of the cook ladies told the story. Something was coming into their camp at night, screaming like a banshee, preventing them from sleeping. Their tools were broken in the mornings, stuff were missing.
That was actually the last iron site in the area.

I was once camping with no tent by myself out in the middle of nowhere (western Kansas) and was almost asleep when I saw a green ball just tracing the terrain about 6' off of it it resembled one of those glow in the dark bouncy balls you get as a kid, but I was miles from the nearest road or even my car. Once went camping way the fuck up by lake wynootchee in western washington/olympic forest. It was way, WAY the fuck out in the middle of nowhere. We were like an hour or so off a paved road on a dirt forest service road next to a creek that fed a few miles down into the lake.

one is kind of growling, and one is whining. Anyways its dead quiet for like 30 seconds, then I hear my other uncle say clear as day "What the fuck is that?" then my other uncle (dogs/shotgun uncle) whisper loud "STFU". Anyways, shit went bananas, everyone up and outside their tents and freaking out. We ended up being up most of the night after building up the fire but nothing else happened. My uncle did let his dogs out and they wouldn't even fuck around leaving the fireside. They were growling and sniffing but had no desire to go out in the dark. Morning time comes and there's no evidence of anything nearby, no noises, no tracks, etc. But we packed up and got the fuck out of there. My uncle with the dogs has been hunting his entire life in western washington and he said it might have been a mountain lion but it didn't sound like any mountain lion scream he had heard before. The dogs were what freaked me out the most the next morning: hair up on their backs, growling and sniffing around. Freaked me right the fuck out. Not sure what it was.

Spooky shit and I've never heard anything like before or since and I grew up hunting and fishing in NW Montana. me and my brother joke that it was sasquatch and ive thought that it just might have been. we were on the lookout for tracks after that night but never came across any plenty of bear and mountain lion but no big humanlike prints.

On a few different occasions I've thought I saw ufos. The first time it was a bright blue light in the sky that went down behind a hill and then it was like the whole horizon there lit up blue for a second as if it crashed. I wrote it off as being a meteor or something but it was very odd. I've seen meteor showers and this was different. The second time I saw a light in the sky really late at night and it was going so fast I knew it couldn't be a plane. I mean it was going faster than anything I've ever seen in the sky before. It was changing directions really suddenly too. Like it's going one direction and then out of nowhere just starts going on a completely different direction without changing speed. It went away after a few minutes though and just left me wondering.

when I was a little kid my family moved into a shitty house in portland, there was a bunch of shit stuffed into the wall... some little kids dairy I guess she was getting raped alot by her family members I was way too young to understand this though, I was 5 while living here... oh man the dreams I had back then, I wouldn't have remembered them if I didn't cause such a fit.. I would be talking to a bearded man I thought was jesus all fucking night long, eventually I stopped sleeping all together just so I could talk to jesus.shit got weird man, he wasn't fuckin jesus. he wasn't really there, I must be mentally ill...but the guy raping his kid was my grandmas uncle, idk how of all the houses, we moved into my greatgrandmas, brothers incestual rape dungeon... things would float in that house and come out of no where, my dad found some disturbing papers behind some dry wall, and after that they just kept appearing all over the place.

Idk if it's supernatural but sometimes life fucks with you and you can't explain it.

One day I was ending work and trying to hold off on a cigarette. My eye sight went fuzzy. I closed shop and walked the one block home (my apartment was on the opposite corner).

As I approach the front lawn/parking area I look up at the 9pm sky and see this rather large glowing orb moving really quickly. As bright as it was I'd have guessed it was fairly far out like between helicopter and a personal plane. It was perfectly spherical and did
not shine hut produced a clear yellow/orange light

It did not produce sound

It moved in and out of sight within 20 seconds

When I was in my teens, we moved into and old house that was abandoned for a while.
My room always had some dark moving shadows.
Parents would not believe me.

Noises all the time at night and in the day, they used to yell at me and ground me for getting up in the middle of the night because they thought I was walking around....even though I swore it wasn't me.

We had this dog that wouldn't even go into my room... I found it barking at my door when it was closed one time as I headed to bed.

One day we were tearing down the wall paper in my room, and underneath all of it were satanic signs and writings.
Spooked a bit, my dad then took up the carpet only to find the floor was charred, and had bloodstains in the middle ...

We moved out in a month and my parents apologize still to this day.

I was in prison at FCI Ashland for cheezy. I was in the steamfitters shop changing some lights (I worked in the Facilities shop) I was in the part of the building that -used- to house the boilers, before they were moved outside the fence. Big, tall open bay structure.

Now at the back left corner there is a tunnel that leads to the basement of the furniture factory. The steam lines used to run through it and there was a stout, prison-style gate on it that hadn't been opened since the 1950s.

I watched a guy walk right through the bars of the gate. Average dude, wearin a blue, short-sleeve shirt and blue jeans. When I was there, prisoners wore Khaki, Cops wore grey.

He turned to look at me, stood there for a second, then turned and walked back through the bars of the gate.

I lost it. I'm hollerin for everybody in the shop to come see this. The cop running the shop comes running, asking me what all the noise is about so I tell him what I saw.

"Oh, that's just Walter." He says. "He died in a bad fire back in 48. He comes over once in a while from the factory. You probably scared the shit out of him."

I only have one, one encounter I heard but my friend saw.
I live on the East Coast of the United States, on a beach towards the North.
Me and my bud were walking towards his house, the beach is only a few feet away and suddenly all the sound goes quasi mute. We can see the birds chirping but nothing coming out, we couldn't hear each other ether, all we could hear was a rumbling that vibrated in our eardrums.
It sounded like if you were indoors and there was a truck outside, on and you could here the vibrations in the air of the engine on. Thats EXACTLY how it sounded.
My friend ran to the beach because he saw something, I saw the end of it but the water was glazed over even though I could still feel the wind and the flags blowing in the center of the bay was a black rectangle; like a giant door closing out on the water, I saw it before the black rectangle closed
My friend saw it when it was open and said it was like a giant black door that looked like a hologram/mirage out on the bay

Thats it though, thats the only spooky thing Ive ever heard and briefly saw

Got another one that was told to me by my Dad.

Dad was workin a second job as the night janitor at an Eagles Club in Fairborn, Ohio. Basically in after the place closed to clean up, mop the floors, take out the trash. Couple of hours work most nights.

Not tonight, though, he's waxing the dance floor so it's gonna be a while. He's there by himself.

He gets about halfway done and he's over by the vending machines. He told me he didn't have a dime on him that night and he was just starin at the candy in the machine and said out-loud to himself "Man, I wish I could have a Snickers bar right now..."

RIGHT NEXT TO HIS EAR, another voice sighs out "Yeah...."

My Pops was a BIG dude. Like really big. Wore a size 15 wedding ring. Not much scared him. But when he told me this his face went pale as a sheet, and he said "Anon, I've never been so scared in my life. I could feel it's breath on my neck for a couple of seconds and then it was gone."

That's weird. Definitely experienced I'd say an unusual amount of deja vu. To the point where it makes me question reality a bit. I remember when I was about 14/15 I would have deja vu about every other day for months at a time. It wasn't the normal type of "woah this feels familiar" deja vu, either. I would think of something random, some small little event or sentence or something and it would happen later that day/night.

This still happens to me too, sometimes. But not as blatantly. Like I'll think of some topic, or something I'm interested in and I'll think of it in detail when I'm alone or in the shower or something. Later on that day it'll come up in conversation and I'll basically just repeat what I was thinking earlier.

Depends on what you mean by supernatural. I know a single person whos gifted with "magic" I say magic cuz its literally just outside/internal energy you can learn to control. She can't do anything particularly amazing like summon a lightning bolt but she can do some minor telekinesis and is also adept at some illusion magic. Its a skill though. Anyone can learn it but no one really wants to take an hour out of there day to sit and meditate and learn how to do it. Obviously some are more adept than others at it. But she knows people who are better than her. I'll go into more detail if you want.
