Because it basically works like a maze with infinite mice, while a normal computer uses 0 and 1, like one mouse and no mouse and he has to push that mouse several times through the maze to find the best solution (the shortest way out)
A quantum computer puts a lot of mice in there at once and just uses the optimal outcome, that's what a superposition basically is and why it helps with computing.
You can't really use that for games for example also it's really hard to use so we won't see any kind of consumer quantum PC for maybe 20 years. Also you need to think about cost and payoff. Even if the price drops, a simple PC will still be cheaper and doing the job well enough.

Current quantum computers are really good at minimization problems. The practical problem with 300 qubit turing machines is that 1) an entangled state that large may take longer than the age of the universe to "settle" to its ground state, and 2) the noise levels of a state would far surpass the signal level. The D-Wave is a fantastic machine, but my understanding of it is that the qubits are not mutually entangled, meaning that you can't apply arbitrary logical operations on any two (or three etc) qubits. And you're severely limited in the operations you can apply. But it's still a quantum computer with many entangled qubits so it's the step forward that we need.

Not really. The low temperature just removes external sources of noise. There are still internal sources of noise so it doesn't solve everything, but it's required unless your error correcting codes (which add more tolerance to the noise) are good enough.

But for real, quantum computers aren't applicable for games for example, they just provide optimal solutions to simple problems. And trying to convert those into something resembling a game is just stupid, you'd be better off investing into 3d cubic chips for CPUs. Basically a lot of flat CPUs in a small tower, you can even try different cooling techniques.
