Thats the problem. You never realize how important those events are until you're in a conversation with a group of people who are all comparing their own experiences. You want to contribute but you suddenly realize that your experience was shit tier compared to theirs, because of some bullshit decision you made at the time "on principle" or whatever. Instead of going to prom, I worked the midnight shift at Papa Johns. No cool dance stories, no cool drugs in the back of a limo stories, no pretty dresses. Could've been a really good memory for me but I fucked up and now that super memorable moment is just "pizzas and inventory".

In all fairness, I had no friends to go with/split costs with/get limo with/etc anyways. There was no point in going from an objective standpoint. If I had gone theres no guarantee I would've had fun either way. Thats why I don't regret the decision itself, just that I don't have a fond memory to have replaced it with.
