I was a criminal justice major (different major now though) but I still remember some cool steps for looking at crime scene photos

1. The scene. She appears to be on a bed. Not just a bed, but a bed that is very "comfy" with a lot of pillows. First thing that strikes as odd. Notice the "messy" look, with objects around them. They appear to be in a room, not somewhere closed off like a basement. Look at the bottom right of the picture. There is a mens T-Shirt. Odd that captives would be placed with his used laundry. There is also a book to their bottom left.

2. Body Language. She is in a relaxed state, and is resting her feet on something. She does not look like she is afraid of the man taking a picture. And the boy, is NOT cowering away from the man either. They both seem to just be fine with the fact that he is taking the picture.

3. What are they wearing. The duct tape is pure black. Duct tape is NOT effective at keeping hostages silent, as saliva causes the "sticky part" to "melt" and it will fall off. IF this happened to be real, the duct tape would have JUST been put on them for the photo, as it is not effective for long term.

I'm not saying it is or isn't actually her, but I'm saying I doubt it.

All I know is that EVEN IF THIS WAS REAL, and she was really kidnapped and in this photo, the photo was "Staged" and they were trying to appear as though they were in harm, but weren't.

To me the duct tape on their mouth is what gives it away. An actual abductor would have learned that duct tape doesn't work over the mouth. Now you're right it is possible that the photo taker knew this but wanted the photo to scare people, OR more likely it was just a joke photo for a short film or something.
