The Girandoni was an air rifle. It had to be precision-engineered and thus unaffordable to almost all civilians. Its projectile, like that of many muskets, was rarely lethal at far ranges unless directly hitting vital areas or unless the wound is not properly treated.
That picture is total bullshit. That said the Girandoni is fucking awesome.
