Got a macbook pro as a graduation gift. It lasted me 7 years with no noticeable performance issues before it finally took a shit and I had to replace it. They may be overpriced, but they fucking last. My girlfriend has gome through 3 different PC laptops in the 5 years we've been together. And the trackpad on macs are literally flawless. Anyone who says "kek macs r 4 fags liek u OP" have never even owned one and their opinions should be disregarded.

It also depends if you want to hardcore game. My macbook played runescape and minecraft and whatever emulators I wanted to run no problem. Worked perfect for me for 7 years. At some point I do plan to build a PC for gaming.

TLDR: PC for gaming, Mac laptops for casual use and longevity.

Pros: Enjoyable interface, easy to use, if something doesn't work, it doesn't from the start, build quality is amazing, market is not over-saturated, so not every single company gets their grubby mitts all over it.
Cons: Expensive as shit, if you want to buy a GPU for it, expensive as shit, e.g.: I used to have a Mac, tried to buy like a GTX 870 or 970, and instead of $200, it was $800, the price of a 1080, alot of software is unsupported, like Razer Synapse is a bitch to work with on Mac, and GeForce Experience doesn't even exist.
PC:
Pros: Cheap, if you choose to spend a lot of money on it, you'll actually get your money's worth, the marketshare is about 80% PC, so companies are working for PC products, for example games, they work on the Mac port later.
Cons: Less inviting interface, things can fuck up out of nowhere, Indian scammers, etc.
In conclusion, I'm happy I have a PC instead of a Mac, since a Mac could never have the power of my PC's 1080.

I used to be a huge pc fag. I own both a MacBook pro and a gaming pc I built.

Mac:
Pros: Keyboard is really nice, trackpads are literally the best on the market. Nothing comes close. Build. Aesthetic. Sophisticated. Status Symbol. Super snappy, great support and warranty from apple. Long lasting. Great integration with the iPhone. Can run MacOs, windows, and linux without having to emulate them. Really nice UI
Cons: Expensive.

PC:
Pros: the premiere gaming experience. Customizable. Windows is pretty good os. easily upgradable and you can future proof in terms of hardware.
Cons: Windows sucks ass sometimes. Experience can very greatly. PC laptops are utter trash and last like a year even if you know how to take care of them.

Conclusion: Buy a macbook pro, or air, and build a gaming PC. You get the best of both worlds. iMacs are stupid, and PC laptops are the shittiest things ever. (except for the Surface Pro series.)

Macs pros: Stable, reliable, don't have to worry about malware (too much)

Mac cons: Not every app/program is compatible with MacOS, you can't really upgrade your machine like with PCs

PC pros: Tons of apps/programs for Windows. If an app exists, it will work with Windows, period. Windows 10 is fairly reliable, and fairly secure if you're not an idiot.
PCs are customizable, especially desktops.

PC cons: Too many devices out there, many of which are absolute crap.. Android phones also have this problem. This might render the OS unusable if it has crappy specs.
If you're an idiot, you're prone to get tons of viruses from Windows too, even W10, since every malware creator out there has targeted Windows since the beginning of the Windows OS.

It all comes down to what you want.. if all you want is browse the internet, check email and go to Facebook, get a Mac. Sure it's more expensive, but they are reliable.

If you're a gaymer or need tons of power, get a good Windows PC. It'll serve you more for less $$.

To everyone saying PCs don't last, you just suck at maintaining them. I have three low to very high end laptops, bought in 2007, 2012 and 2015, all still run perfectly, despite of course slight performance issues on the oldest one, which would also happen on a mac the same age (caused by software evolution, not hardware)
And I never touch the hardware myself, so no fancy modification or else (I'm a software guy). Only used 150€ for fixing them all so far.

Macs are harder to crash than other PCs, they're built better (software + hardware), better customer service of course. They don't suck at gaming as much as they lack games to begin with.

Half the programmers I know use Macs as well, 'cause it's stable, Unix, etc

Windows all the way. Windows is extremely resilient and unless you're a massive retard who deletes system32, it just flawlessly works and is cheap, fast, and can play all games.

Mac is extremely limited in what you can do, and you're basically forced to using shitty Apple software like iTunes and all.

Linux can be alright and has its uses such as on servers and all. But it's horribly not resilient. It's so fucking easy to fuck up your install, and good luck using it without constantly googling terminal commands to do certain things. When I used Linux Mint which is already one of the most user friendly distros, I had to google how to do so much shit and the terminal commands I looked up would sometimes fail and cause damage to my Linux install.

have both macbook (pro 2013 retina) and PC (upgraded 2 month ago).
Macbook is all for work, it's really well made, comfort in every piece. I'd say it's a perfect showcase of what UI/UX design truly brings.U also can't avoid macs in many spheres like design, web-design, web dev, audio production.
PC - I use it exclusively for games. U can't really compare it to mac on this field. It's first of all drivers support, variety of parts for any wallet and ofc pirated soft. There are troubles with that on apple.
So - no windows laptop. All mobile stuff - mac dominates. Also avoid so called GAMER LAPTOP - truly marketing crap.

Google tried to mimmick iMessage with Hangouts but Hangouts is a disaster. I don't know a single person that uses it instead of normal SMS. Meanwhile every iPhone user uses iMessage.

MacOS compliments iPhones too with iMessage, FaceTime, AirDrop, etc. It's pretty nice.

I have sony vaio vgn-fw480j back when Vista was new and it now runs windows 10. I still use it every day as my main system. I use it for everything including photoshop, gaming, and rendering. There have been very few crashes over all these years of use.

I have very limited experience with Apple devices, mostly with helping others with their mac/ios.

I've still got a Toshiba Libretto 50CT from ~1997 that still works perfectly and does everything I ask of it.

Granted, it is used as a serial terminal and for the occasional DOS game, the battery life is probably around an hour now, and the MIDI side of things has long since perished (Windows doesn't detect it anymore but some DOS games force it to life), but it still runs PuTTY and HyperTerminal fine.

If you ask me, this argument shouldn't even be happening. Who gives a fuck what window manager you use in your Linux install? Whatever works best for you.

I'll be the first to admit it, I love Macs. I personally love the old compact Macs (SE, SE/30, iMac G3), but they just don't do what I need them to.

Windows does what I need it to, and it has a tendency to do it faster and easier than Mac or Linux.

I had a long history working with windows machines, since I found they were reasonably priced and liked the options of upgrading them myself from time to time. The performance for the price has was great and the occasional crashes and freezes have been acceptable in regard of the other advantages.

In my current work environment, freezes and crashes are NOT acceptable anymore, never. And I can't spend time thinking caring about any hardware issues. For me, the noticeable plus in reliability is worth the extra cash, plus I feel I'm more productive with the Mac interface.
