Yeah. Where I live there are no career paths. It was either work in hospitality, or a hospital. The only way I could escape was by going to a private CDL school and becoming a truck driver.. It seems like a waste of smarts. But it pays good, and when I'm off I get to invent and tinker with things on my own time, with plenty of cash on hand to do so. And being a truck driver requires very little socializing with dumb people. Most folks just want to do their jobs and go home. Thats fine with me!

There is no proven correlation between intelligence and depression. There is plenty of speculation and studies on the subject, but it seems the results of the studies are mostly inconclusive. A Google search will tell you as much.

Now, there does seem to be an increased prevalence of mental illness among creative people; however, this seems to apply more to the humanities than the sciences.

Got mt iq tested when I was 6, scored more then 150. Dropped out of school twice, worked night shift l for a year and started attending school once again. It isn't simply that ignorance is bliss, because ignorance is also fucking painful at times, only to the ignorant person their "misfortunes" seem to come flying outta nowhere. They obviously suffer the consequences, aware or not. The true reasons intelligence is associated with depression is because we don't fit in. People all around are far too small-minded and preoccupied with petty bullshit that geniuses look at like children playing in a sandbox. And if you don't fit in, that is a big challenge as a human being. We depend on eachother entirely, and when one cannot be understood or related with, life gets needlessly difficult even though you are the most competent individual to deal with the problems.
A sufficiently intelligent individual certainly also recognises the meaninglessness of life, but it is dealt with differently from case to case.
