this is a uniaue situation but there are far worse that leave an imprint on people and their behaviour for the rest of their lives.

The same way you may hate someone because of your experience with lets say 5 or 10 interactions with them or people of that minority. I fear cops because of 2-3 interactions with them, but moreso because they, like you, may feel the way you do about myself for being a minority.

A video of the event surfaced. Thomas can be seen being uncooperative with the officers, but sitting and being non-aggressive. After the officers grab Thomas to arrest him for stolen mail they apparently found, Thomas can be heard repeatedly screaming in pain while officers are heard repeatedly asking him to place his arms behind his back. He audibly responds "Okay, I'm sorry!" and "I'm trying!" while the officers stretch his arm back. The police officers claim that, unable to get Thomas to comply with the requests, they used a taser on him (up to five times according to a witness statement, and the video footage), and in the video Thomas can be heard screaming for his father.[22][23] Six officers were involved in subduing Thomas, who was unarmed and had a history of mental illness. Thomas was initially taken to St. Jude Medical Center in Fullerton but was transferred immediately to the UC Irvine Medical Center with severe injuries to his head, face, and neck.[24] One of the paramedics testified that he was first instructed to attend to a police officer's minor injury and then noticed Thomas lying unconscious in a pool of blood.

Police are held to a higher standard. They're also authorized to use force by law.
If someone wants to try and challenge an officer, who has been trained and authorized to use both lethal and non lethal force, an officer that normaly has willingly taken that profession to protect people, then that someone has a well deserved ass whoopin' headed their way.
Now an officer that actually oversteps the boundaries of his or her authority and maliciously kills another citizen whom they swore to protect and serve, deserves the same punishment that they dealt out to said citizen in similar fashion.

I am a security officer at a fairly large casino. As the manager of my team of guys I deal with the cops every 2-3 days. The group of cops that come in are always friendly, put-together, and professional. When I get pulled over at a checkpoint they always wave me through once they see it's me, so I guess the special treatment it nice. On a related note, when I was a volunteer firefighter, the same cops would treat me like shit. Funny how profession changes perception like that.
