The interesting part of this is that if you abstract it a little bit, like I did, it sounds more like a sci fi or cyberpunk drama than a cartoon about ponies. The protagonist is a member of a bioengineered slave race created for pleasure, but was molded by surgery and biomechanical augmentation to be a vicious killing machine.

The story doesn't keep going that direction, though. Once Dashie refuses to accept Scoots, Scoots escapes and the story becomes about him. The surgery aspect was to continue supporting the on-going experiment (and to actually point out it is an experiment since it wasn't let on to be earlier in the comic).
