Regarding child molesters...

Pedophiles/child molesters rarely last long in prison. The smart ones go straight to protective custody where they spend their time in isolation. The thing is, in protected housing units, isolation is fucking debilitating. You're in a cell for 23 hours a day with only one hour outside and you begin to go mad after a few months. Imagine doing 5-10-15 years of complete isolation....it's enough to make a few (stupid) child molesters decide to go to Gen pop with the rest of the inmates and take their chances. Granted these are people who are first timers to prison and think the whole "pedos are scum" narrative isn't true. Trust me, it fucking is.

You have to understand that even prisoners who have committed murder are still human beings. They still have morals and a code of ethics. Sure the guy who stabbed a 87 year old grandma and than raped her corpse is a despicable human being, but in prison he's lightyears above a chomo.

You have to understand that most inmates were sexually abused themselves as a kids. Also many of them have kids of their own. The thought of a grown man violently raping an innocent child whether a boy or a girl it doesn't matter it's fucking disgusting and sick and wrong. It fucks you up for life. And seeing as how many inmates were already abused as kids and feel like that's why they're in prison already they decide to take out this frustration on the the very people who did it to other little girls and boys.

It doesn't matter that gangs in prison the blacks the whites the mexicans the others hate each other, they all band together when it comes to giving a child molester their justice. It's sort of a beautiful thing, really. Almost like there is racial harmony for 5 minutes while the chomo gets theirs. And believe me it isn't pretty.

Also, guards look the other way and turn a blind eye. A lot of guards sympathize with prisoners in this regard.
