>>720041619 I know that neurosurgery encompasses quite a range of diseases and conditions (brain tumors, neurological disorders, disc bulges, radiculapathy, etc.).
I have pretty bad sciatic pain that has gone up and down for years amid multiple surgeries and every kind of PT and drug. Pain is still there and the new neurosurgeons I've seen just blow me off and give me some new shitty muscle relaxer that is useless.
Are there any that specialize in nerve damage or nerve conditions?
>>720042533 badly pic related (although more likely bacterial tbh)
>>720042623 sorry to hear that, anon. i understand it can be a bitch taking those meds. i don't know of any structural problems that can be corrected through surgery. all i can recommend is that you stay on your meds and only consider tapering them in a controlled fashion. good luck
>>720042640 floaters? cannot. something else? tell us more
>>720042652 well played, anon truth be told, my undergrad was in a worthless non-STEM field. but... here we are.
>>720042666 eh. not likely. you'd need to get all fork-in-a-garbage-disposal with it to really be certain. there are cleaner, more certain techniques than that silliness. but, cmon anon, why you want to do that madness? go outside and get some fresh air.
I was 19 years old. Chances i got defects which i don´t notice? Sometimes i got a bad pain where i was operated. If i work long I feel very exhausted and it is hard to speek. I am starting to stumble. Is that normal?
I ve been struggling with candida overgrowth for an whole year and these stupid urologists couldn't get it right.finally I self diagnosed myself and I'm feeling much much better.you think 14 days of difulcan-fluconazol-50mg would do the trick? I ve had brain fog and chronic fatigue syndrome and depression and alot of other candida related symptoms
>>720042715 fuck that noise i like my job, i don't need govt headaches i will never disparage the man's surgical contribution (he's probably saved more lives than i have, just based on grey hair count), but he's for sure a wing nut
>>720042784 you got a jpa or a prolactinoma? pic related: surgical view after resection
>>720042867 sorry to hear that anon if you've had surgery already and new surgeons are saying, no more, i'd listen to them sometimes the nerve has been injured from prior compression and there is no more surgical correction to safely consider. stretching and exercise (easy for me to say) are usually the best bang for buck. hope you get relief or at least tolerance. good luck
>>720042802 neurologists and their meds are usually a better path than surgeons. however, i don't (as a rule) recommend chiro depsite anon's experience. apologies to chirofags lurking. very remote but real risk of catastrophic vascular injury from cervical manipulation.
>>720041619 In the off chance you are legit....I occasionally get a bad migraine/sharp pain in my head (varies but mostly at the base of my head where it meets the neck and also like a section behind either eye) and it is triggered by a sneeze, cough, or sometimes during sex. Should I be worried? Some backround I think is relevant is that I have played football from pop warner through college (and other contact sports) and I'm worried it might be related to essentially being in a minor car accident for many days in a row for years. It's just such a debilitating pain that it worries me...like hair pulling pain that leads to just feeling exhausted and out of it...thanks anon
A while back I got 2 MRI's I think. The ones where I had to go in a loud tube and they let me listen to metal music...but the first time the neurologist said I was leaking spinal fluid at the base of my skull? And after the second one he merely said don't worry about it...anything odd or out of place about that?
>>720043081 got a recent post-op surveillance scan? lingering discomfort is typical as is more easily feeling of fatigue. but at 6y postop i'd wonder if anything is brewing especially if you feel like you get more worn out more quickly than last year. if you haven't seen your doc in the last year, get yourself an appt anon. good luck
>>720043083 my crystal ball says: never and never. i like being wrong but i wouldn't invest in anything with cryo- in the name
>>720041619 >If If you heavily impacted your head/skull on a cement football pitch at 8. What damage could there be later on in life. If there has never been an x-ray or examination at all? I do have a lump on my skull but that is all.
>>720043541 >sorry to hear that anon >if you've had surgery already and new surgeons are saying, no more, i'd listen to them >sometimes the nerve has been injured from prior compression and there is no more surgical correction to safely consider. stretching and exercise (easy for me to say) are usually the best bang for buck. hope you get relief or at least tolerance. good luck
Thanks for the reply.
I don't want more surgery, I just want the pain to be stopped or managed. I could go to pain management, but I know that isn't a solution and will involve some drugs or shots.
I'll keep with the PT and drug plan I'm on now, but it hasn't resulted in any change over the past year.
I'm 95% certain there is no current fix for my unique problem, based on dealing with this for 5 years. Is it possible that I just have permanent damage and the pain will never go away? I'm not asking for a diagnosis, just if permanent pain is possible from compression.
>>720043249 levels of what, anon? just do the common sense healthy stuff: indulge in moderation, maintain balance, exercise... blah blah blah. it's boring but far more effective than any snake oil being pitched.
>>720043261 a lot of variables, anon. epidural hematomas get the most press but different types of bleeds in different places can cause unwelcome mischief. pic related
>>720043466 don't go misleading /b/ no such thing as too much masturbation
>>720043483 it's all in the hips, anon aim for the fence
>>720043496 whoa there, anon you are talking about the little head and the big head and treating both concurrently fungal infections can be a bitch but it's not rocket science to diagnose and properly treat. how you getting those meds without a script anyways? make sure you are getting appropriate follow up to exclude residual infection. good luck
>>720043723 biggest concerns to me are if the frequency or severity is increasing over time. it's unlikely to be structural in nature but it's possible you can get some relief with meds (if appropriate). see your primary as a first step. they'll set you up with initial testing/treatment/referral. hope you get some relief soon, anon.
>>720043727 nah. the rads report probably said something about "csf collection" or pseudomeningocele" or some such. if the surgery was years ago and nothing is leaking through the skin, don't sweat that. the question is if there was any abnormal enhancement at the area of tumor resection. if none, you're doing ok, anon.
>>720043823 i won't ask, anon. it's between you and me. see your PCP and get a referral to an ENT if there's something there, they can fish it out if you haven't had recurrent/chronic infections, it's not likely still there though. and, word of advice, stop shoving shit up your nose. christ's sake, anon.
>>720044404 I have immunoglobulin deficiency enherited from my mother.it all started with what looked like prostatitis but with no sign of prostatitis and so I was diagnosed with chronic prostatitis .I didn't take the meds by myself ,I had the luck of going to a nefrologist that believed my assumption based on the fact that she s been seeing very agresive candida infections.after I read into candida (because it was the only thing that was coming up in my gf s blood tests) I realized that I had symptoms like those I ve written before but I ve been putting them on the depression I had being in pain from the prostate.candida overgrowth explains all the symptoms I have plus others (like those written above).what follow up should I do after difulcan?
>>720045069 I have an appointment in March.. but I don't want to wait that long. Cant I remove it somehow by myself? Can I do something to dislodge it? Is there tissue growth over it do you think? Or could I just get it out without bleeding/ risk of infection?
I was told there was significant reduction in the 30 days i started taking cabergoline no discharge but i did have a little blood from my nose it was very little and it was just a spot on a cleanex but dark red more like reddish snot i have 6 months on cabergoline to go then another mri
Not fully. Doc recommended it, but it didn't seem to help, and I kept getting seizures. I also dropped 30 lbs and looked like fucking skeletor.
Seizures have pretty much stopped now and I eat whatever I want, besides bacon / cured meats. For some reason I felt like they were causing me issues, but its probably not... When I was eating that I was getting multiple partials a day, now I've had a few a year. Btw all this shit randomly started at 26yo
>>720043947 i make the donuts. but, you know, that shit gets sold out quick so i needed something to fill the hours. hence neurosurgery.
>>720044034 good question, anon look up 'phrenology' to see how people have tried to sort that shit out grossly, meaning macro scale, there's typically not an obvious difference (look up phineas gage for an exception)(pic related) micro scale, people have tried to attribute variations from the norm to explain deviant behavior of different flavors my own sense is that we don't know enough to really understand the situation
>>720044139 at this point, presuming you're not like 8 1/2, it's unlikely to be causing any ongoing issues. the lump may or may not be related, but if you can feel it through the scalp it's not likely to cause issues inside
I really really like my own farts. Like to the point where it's becoming a growing concern. I dont even give a fuck about personal space or if people can hear them or they smell bad. They just amuse me.
For example yesterday I was at a show and i cut a real nasty one right before the set and I could see the look on the faces of people around me that they could smell it (although it was crowded so I'm not sure if they even noticed it was me). I was so elated I almost got hard.
I even drank like 1/2 a gallon of milk today just so I could change up the smell from my normally protein-induced farts to something more exotic.
>>720044169 fuck anon, that sucks but essential vs PD is not a tough one if you don't have insurance, get that shit before it becomes unobtainable for 'pre-existing conditions' see the primary, get a referral to a neurologist, and they can guide you to the best meds usually surgery, while effective, is reserved for problems refractory to medication (meds no longer work) good luck getting it sorted
>>720044226 5 years is a long time to suffer, anon that being said, i wouldn't lose hope unless two docs have told you (never believe one if it's big news) there is irreversible damage and the current pain will be permanent, i'd take it one day at a time. if you haven't seen pain docs yet, may be worth a visit. they sometimes have cocktails to recommend that won't necessarily have unwelcome side effects in the meantime, keep on keeping on. as long as you don't give up hope, you have a chance to achieve pain-free fun. good luck
>>720041619 >how many years of residency? >your age when you got official doctor title? >$$ during residency and $$ made with title?
And most importantly, >whats your resume like? Did you have to do volunteering for med school? Fuck the poor and needy. I used to be like that but the world is cold. Money talks. Fuck altriusm and doing shit for free. Id rather do research and internships out the ass
>>720044367 first: new barber second: see a good neurologist. if you are not getting relief with your current doc, get another opinion. no need to suffer if there's another option to explore. cluster headaches suck, but sadly surgery doesn't offer relief. hope it gets better, anon
>>720044518 have you seen a neurosurgeon yet? if they're already calling it idiopathic, they've presumable ruled out trauma and any enhancing lesion (did they do gadolinium with the MRI?) that could be causing it. in that case, you may live to be 100y and never suffer any problems from the radiographic finding. most important: stay aware of how the legs/bowel/bladder function change (or not) over time. no change? no worries. just don't ignore it, anon. good luck
>>720044851 my pleasure, /b/ro been lurking >10y why the fuck not?
>>720044881 I did these cases in residency but since it's best addressed by an expert, i don't do them currently. literature supports the view that there is a criminal delay in getting people surgery that can enable seizure-free (or at least improved) lives. starts with the primary, then the neurologist, then the neurosurgeon, neuropsych, perhaps a stay in the EMU after grid/depth electrodes are placed (pic related). the first step is to ask the question and be the squeaky wheel. you may not benefit from surgery, but it's best to make some noise getting an answer so you know your options. good luck pic related
>>720044959 super duper non-existant vertigo sucks but in the vast majority of cases is idiopathic and resolves to be safe, see your doc though
>>720045012 sorry to hear that, anon. shit sucks. hope you are spending time with family and getting some fresh air. truth: there's no prevention that's bullet proof. the one saving grace is that, as tough as it is for the family and loved ones, in most cases the person suffering the strokes is unaware of all the shit that's going on. hang in there, anon having a drink now for your grandma
>>720045174 glad you are seeing a nephro doc and getting sorted, anon you've got problems i'm not going to pretend i know how to address i'm more an above-the-neck guy as long as you have regular follow up with your docs and make sure you have your concerns addressed, you can rest assured that you're not neglecting anything hope it all resolves
>>720045330 anon, you're worried you got a seed up in your shit. now you want to go digging solo? bad call. if it's getting worse/painful/infected/draining, the way to accelerate the process is to go to the ER. anticipate a bill, but if you're worried about your health it's well worth it.
>>720045396 sweet sounds like no issues so far when you meet to review the MRI, ask about long term follow up so you know the plan
>>720045644 you are the one that needs to wake up every morning and do what you do if you want to do medicine, get connected with a pre-med advisor (usually your undergrad school is the best place to start) to understand the process and strategize. most important: make sure your motivation is legit. good luck
>>720045975 it's never about the money, anon if it is, medicine is the wrong path clever people can make more for less grey hairs in the US, 4y undergrad, 4y med school, 7y neurosurg residency fellowship prn 1-3y income ranges are avail on google
>>720046016 most important is you, anon is it affecting you in an appreciable way MRIs are basically magic, x-ray vision, but you need to be measured in your reaction to them. they can reveal things that are pre-existing and asymptomatic, and essentially need no follow-up or treatment. discuss it with your doc. if you're unsatisfied with their explanation/plan, ask for a second opinion. you could live to be 100y and take that fucker to your grave. don't sweat it, anon; just don't ignore it.
>>720046166 anon. cmon. don't be that guy that shows up to the ER with a spoon stuck up his nose. how long has that shit been there? if it's stable, be patient. if it's getting worse, see if you can get an earlier appt. if you're really worried, go to the ER.
>>720046838 if you do it right, nope but why even do that, anon? maybe go outside first. get some fresh air. have a drink.
>>720047410 that's a long road, anon glad you are not worse, despite the process we don't always get improvement but if we can prevent decline, that's acceptable pic related
>>720047622 it's not about the 'slipped discs' described by rads it's about how you feel and is there a structural explanation that can be improved by surgery if you saw a surgeon and they said no need surgery, you can always request a second opinion. but i wouldn't keep asking until someone says 'sure, i'll cut you for a bucket of money.' time, exercise, core strengthening and patience usually work best. hope it gets better, anon
>>720047636 what do you mean, anon? not to be edgy, but we live, we die.
>>720047682 stop trusting the internet, /b/ro. see your doc. there may be options to explore that can make you feel more yourself. good luck
>>720047723 flashbacks? not sure i understand, anon, but not that i'm aware of. google hippocampus for a primer on memory short version: lotta ideas but ultimately it's a question without a definitive answer
>>720048004 very my rec: take a break from /b/ and get some fresh air
>>720048338 it falls in the category of 'be careful what you wish for,' anon that being said, i do love my profession. the people, the patients, the families, fuck me they're good people. stronger than i am.
>>720049366 Idk man, I went there, the waiting room was jammed. She just gave it a touch and told me it was something something, and that it should fade over time. In and out in a minute. Should I get them excised or punctured or some shit?
>>720049144 >what do you mean, anon? >not to be edgy, but we live, we die. I mean, from the bad stuff that can happen to your brain, what's the think that scares you the most? Or at least the one you pray not to have
>>720049505 >maybe. but i'm betting in a moment they'll catch their breath and let you know your shit is in a world of hurt I happen to be in extreme pain from time to time that comes in waves I guessed that the firing of the neurons would be the cause that they are not constant
