Copernicus had to deal with the first one. His idea of heliocentrism was a little off, because he was trying to describe planetary motion in terms of circles, kepler hadn't come around yet with his ellipses. So Copernicuses models were unnecessarily more complicated than the prevailing geocentric model.

But he ended up being right. A simple explanation sometimes is wrong! Considering there's an ocean of information out there that we don't even know that we don't know, Occam's Razor can be a huge problem.

The second one is a pain in the ass when you describe phenomena that are only present when you are the thing experiencing the phenomena, like free will or consciousness. Any atheist who tries to use science to disprove freewill or consciousness is being intellectually dishonest because they're making an aesthetic choice, not really following through on anything procedural. A hammer can't blowdry my hair, science can't touch 1st person phenomena.

Go research the Hard Problem of Consciousness. Any system (possibly) can experience itself. You know personally that you can experience stuff, why can't a city or a forest experience stuff. Your brain is just a city of glia and neurons, and not much more complex than a computer.

It's not that big (or philosophically unpopular) a stretch to think the universe is conscious. Or at least just earth, or even just your house.

Like have you ever broken up with someone after a very long time? The relationship itself is its own person, and figuring out who you are apart from that person is so difficult, and also it feels like a death, but not of you or your partner.

The concept of agent vs. object is pretty cool, and atheism is a little uh, close minded to a lot of that. Whatever sells books I guess!

yes, some individual scientists do refuse to admit when they are wrong, it's hard to admit to oneself that what they have been working on the better part of their professional life is wrong, but science does not follow an individuals dogma, it's a community that's constantly trying to prove itself wrong to make sure as a whole they get it as correct as possible with the resources available.
