I'm going to use "allosexuality" as an example because of how egregious it is. Basically people would say that they were "allosexual", which would mean that they were attracted to intelligent people. And when I heard that I immediately hated it and thought anyone who went out of their way to identify that way was an idiot. Obviously most of the people doing it were 15 or whatever, so no duh. But I didn't really understand why it bothered me for a while.

I think it has to do with the annoyance of someone going out of their way to identify themselves as being "special", because doing that somehow implies that they think they're better than anyone else. And I can see why that's so irritating to me, and to other people. But I don't know who's to blame. About why gay pride is a thing:

Imagine your favorite ice cream flavor was banned. Imagine having to see all of your friends eating their favorite ice cream flavors, having to get your favorite ice cream flavor illegally or not have it at all. You'd be pretty pumped if action started taking place that would make your favorite ice cream flavor legal, yeah? Let's say a law is passed that legalizes your favorite flavor, and now you can eat it whenever you want. You might feel compelled to celebrate.

Now imagine that every tenth person went through the same shit you did. You might start hosting some that-ice-cream-flavor enthusiast parties. You might be a little pumped up, a little happy about how things went.

And yeah, I see how if you aren't gay, if your favorite ice cream flavor wasn't banned, you don't get what the big deal is and you wish those people would stop making such a big deal about how great their ice cream flavor is. As far as my experience in gay bars, I was usually going there with my roomate/coworker. As I was new in town and didn't know anywhere to go, I asked him to take me out, knowing what kind of place it would be. I never have to ask people if they are gay; I can see it for miles. I did feel rather uncomfortable actually, with all those guys looking at me like a piece of meat. Made me have a little more sympathy for women wakling into a sausage fest.

I don't just straight up ask people what kind of unconventional life they may be living, but I seem to have a talent for finding such people--or maybe they find me.

Here's an example: I was having coffee in a cafe one day with a friend. My friend left first and I hung out a little longer. Out of nowhere, another customer I've never met comes over and makes some comments about the conversation we had overheard (we'd been talking about the history of Halloween as a harvest holiday). Explains he recently had a harvest holiday himself, then drops a loaded pipe on the table. There were other customers in the cafe; none of them are users to my knowledge, but they didn't immediately call the police. I don't know how he knew I was a smoker--at that time I hadn't had a puff in about four years and I didn't have any smoker associates in the city. That's how I met my dealer; he says he just "knew".
