What's a really good sci fi movie? bonus for less well known ones
Moon
john dies at the end

/Stalker/ remains a favorite after all these years. It has held up well.
There's The Martian which is one of my favourites, Interstellar, Apollo 13... Mainstream shit really.
BTW stay the fuck away from Gravity
>>718892828
I tried but it keeps pulling me back in.

mtha 'fucking Dune. Watch the longer sci-sci channel movie though if you want to better understand the story
>>718892828
this is bait. If you like the martian over gravity you must be trolling. nice try anon
>>718892584
A scanner darkly is like a current-times scifi thriller, based a lot on capitalism/drug culture, and self-perception. Definitely a bit of a mindfuck
Snowpiercer is very much a b-movie, but it's decent + Ed Norton
>>718892584
twelve monkeys
The Host (2006, a highly acclaimed korean monster movie)
The Mist (Possibly my favorite monster related movie)
Time Crimes (Spanish film, one of the best time travel movies ever and not that widely known)

A lot of people like the Russian film Solaris, but I found it to be underwhelming.

Cube of course, if you haven''t seen by now
>>718893116
I liked them both fine, but The Martian is better. It doesn't get old, and at no point does anyone make dog noises.
>>718892584
Coherence. You won't be disappointed.
>>718892584
Tetsuo
The Silent Star
La Jetee
Icarus XB-1
Planet of Storms
Has anyone seen Predestination? I saw it a year ago and I still don't know if I like it or not.
>>718893275
I'm throwing in with Solaris, has some pretty cool archetypal Biblical imagery - I'd consider it a necessity
>>718893275
I love Solaris (Tarkovsky) and Stephen Soderbergh's too.
Open the Pod Bay Doors
Dave Attel was the shit in this one.

Attempts at humor were a bit dry, but it fucking killed.
If you can deal with the shitty animation of some of the cars and animals, The sound of thunder isn't too bad. Based figuratively and literally on the butterfly effect. give it a go youll see what I mean.

If you can put up with badly dubbed and subtitled movies
>machine gun girl
>tokio gore police
Both good films and kinda weird but fun
>>718895216
i heard they made a sequel recently, but it was shit
Europa Report is a good one if you're a fan of Cloverfield, which is my next suggestion. Anything JJ Abrams works on seems to be pretty cool if it isn't too mainstream.

The Man From Earth

good movie though
>>718893487
yep, was different but good
>>718892584
dark star
watch it while shitfaced
Lots of good suggestions:
I'll especially second Existenz, Videodrome, Dark City, Twelve Monkeys (or la Jetée if you're into the original), A Scanner Darkly and Man from Earth.
I'll add Metropolis and Strange Days.
As much as I love the Thing, I consider it more horror than sci-fi.

>mfw 2001:space odyssey is the best fucking sci fi movie ever made
Also, Blade Runner and Metropolis
>>718898737
I'm asking because I watched the trailer and it seems really trippy to me.
>>718898811
2001: Space Odyssey MIGHT be good if you're high on LSD, otherwise it's a slow-paced confusing mess of a movie.
>>718898811
>bonus for less well known ones
Metropolis fits the bill
>>718898924
It's pretty bad bro, seriously
>>718895163
Godlike movie
>>718898949
slow-paced and confussing?
well, man, over everything it's beautiful, it's a succession of high quality scenes, with a great selection of music and an immersing story.
Slow is not painful if you actually can feel the movie and what Kubrick was trying to say.
Confusing is a minor thing comparing all the other characteristics of the movie
>Also, HAL 9000
>Also, sorry if I said something wrong, English is not my first language
Paul Blart Mall cop 2
The Star Trek Wars
>>718899226
HAL 9000 was the best story element in the movie, no debate there. But to me everything goes downhill after the trippy colors flash all over the screen and after that... I am completely lost.
>>718899262
No no man, you got it wrong! it's Battlewars Galactic Trek.
