The only good thing Skyrim had going for it was graphics. It was beautiful when it came out and it's more so now it's on current gen hardware.
The only reason I'm playing it is because I finally have mod capabilities on console, and Bethesda knows their fans make a better game than they do.

Here's a shot from my Morrowind setup. It may have aged poorly, but for a game that came out in 2002 mods make it way better

Where did it all go so wrong? Bethesda used to be worthy of respect.
>>
>>718609695
I don't know why. I've never bother to play the main story lines. Never bothered with the Dark brotherhood, hate the thieves guild. I guess it's the modding. I'm an MO user and I just keep trying to make the game into "mine"; like I did with Oblivion. It never works out though.
>>
>>718610503
Redguard > Arena > Daggerfall > Morrowind > Oblivion > Skyrim
>>
>>718609695
It was mediocre so I don't
>>
>>718610728
If I had PC believe me I'd be on it. I need a little more financial stability before I invest in a good PC.
>>
>>718610803
Battlespire also coincides with Arena, though exactly when is not clear.
>>
>>718609695
Skyrim is the best game of all time hands down. 6 years after it released, people are still making hours upon hours of new content. Bethesda struck gold with their mods, the creation engine itself is OK but having thousands of volunteers make it better is what keeps me coming back after each year
>>
>>718610803

>>
>>718610942
>best game

Okay kiddo. Bethesda released a garbage-ass game in Fallout 4 because they knew their mod-happy fans would finish the game for them. Skyrim as a story was mediocre at best and it's gameplay was really patronizing in how simplistic it was.
Bethesda released the SSE as a $60 game because they knew their fans would buy it JUST so they could mod it, not because Skyrim was inherently good.
>>
>>718611317
Specs? My PC is pretty beefy but MGE can give even the best hardware shitty framerate if it's maxed out. I had to tweak the settings to even get a stable framerate
>>
>>718611470
I'm not defending everything Bethesda does, I'm saying that Skyrim is probably the best game of all time, which it is. The main story surely could have been better, but you show me a game with more replay-ability than Skyrim
>>

>>
>>718611470
Fallout 4 was such a crushing disappointment, especially considering that aside from the bugs New Vegas was pretty decent. And yet people hailed it as the best in the series, because they are fucking idiots.
>>
>>718609695

it was bland, generic shit
>>
>>718611611

I got a new laptop capable of playing it so I went to loverslad and found a mod that made their tits asses bellies and vaginas jiggle and bounce

Never would be expected that
Not to even mention osex which is a new sex mod which works perfectly with the HDT vag that has collisions with the cocks so the lips open when they're fucking

Wtf man best game ever

>>
>>718611687

The main impression I got was that it fell victim to the "Open world" plague of modern video games; they focused on the size of the game world, filling it with absolutely loads to do, forgetting to make any of it interesting or varied. And that's not getting into the dumbing down of the story and character building.

3 was fine. It had its moments. Unfortunately it doesn't have much to do side quest wise. I mean, maybe 20-40 hours in total with side quests and main story. New Vegas on the other hand.. I have over a hundred and could still do more playthroughs with different choices, and probably more quests I haven't touched yet.

>>
>>718609695
Bethesda basically dumbed EoS down to appeal to a more casual market.

I'd be lying if I say that this wasn't my first EoS game, but after playing Oblivion and Morrowind I can't really play Skyrim anymore, falls short when compared to those two gameplay/story wise.
>>
>>718612966
Yeah, that shit barely ever has anything to do with what you choose. At many parts of the game, nearly every option is the same exact sentence, just worded slightly different.
>>
>>718613144
0/10
>>
>>718612966
I know.. The sarcastic option is literally fucking autistic. My steam review just consisted of saying don't ever pick it. Most of the time I pick an option, and what my character says doesn't come close to reflecting what I meant. I just sit in shellshocked horror watching my character act like a total retard, because I didn't just pick the standard yes option.
>>
>>718613207

You think so? I thought Oblivion is kinda clunky. I went back and tried to play it recently and it just didn't do it for me at all, and I used to love the game. Then again, I am on console, and I'm sure it's an entirely different game on PC.

Don't undervalue enchantments. Also, don't be afraid to turn the difficulty down if it's so hard it's unplayable. You can always turn it back up later. When you're good you should be able to start the game on adept and not have to change it.
>>
I loved the previous two Elder Scrolls titles, and I loved Skyrim all the same. I loved the openness, some of the NPCs were pretty bomb, I liked the story, I liked the DLCs, and oddly enough I enjoyed the leveling system despite it being tedious. Admittedly they could have done better on a lot of things, like improving the story and making longer, improving the dark brotherhood and thieve's guild quest lines, making better and not as stiff NPCs, making more and diverse followers and enemies, make a respect system so that NPCs will not treat you like trash, and not make most dungeons cookie cutter versions of an original model. But despite all this, the community still thrives, the mods are awesome, all 50,000+ on Nexus and 10,000+ on Steam, and I will keep on giving this game hours until ES6 rolls around.
>>
>>718614685
Frankly, Bethesda are shit at difficulty. They just do the old "Player damage down, enemy damage up" shit and it feels ridiculous. Bandits killing your dragonbone armour-plated ass with iron arrows.
>>
>>718614643
Morroblivion and skywind are both crap. Morrowind's engine is a big part of the reason it is good. Both of these mods aren't going to be morrowind even when done, they're going to be oblivion/skyrim with a morrowind filter on them
>>
>>718614907

>>718615041
I can see why people like scaling, as it means you never steamroll enemies and you never run into something too hard for you to take down, but I despise it. It just means there's never any sense of progression, and often, low-tier enemies vanish completely. I was so glad when The Witcher 3 came out and it didn't have scaling, because it's so common now.

Fun =/= Quality

You can enjoy a game without it being good. You can hate a game that is good. The best games are both good and enjoyable. Skyrim is enjoyable, but not good.

Look man, I enjoy the game, I get that you don't like it. Why waste your time in these threads, then? Go do something you DO like
>>
>>718618114
Because quality still affects your enjoyment of a game, it's that simple.
Because Skyrim wasn't good, I stopped giving a shit once I finished it. The games that are both good and fun, I remember them for years.
>>
>>718618435
I do like talking about it
>>
>>718617616
... but it does.

The quality is dependent on many factors like employee talent, time tables, management choices, feedback, current trends, etc...

Regardless of all that, based purely on the finished product, Skyrim is a flawed but ultimately fun game for the majority of Americans. No more, no less.

Goodnight all
>>
>>718618291
To be honest, I like a fair few of their non-ES/Fallout games
>>
Skyrim was destroyed by two things.

You could fast travel and thus never explored the land properly.

You could echant weapons with unlimited mana buffs.
>>
>>718609695
skimpy armor and fuck mods.
>>
I think we can all agree that without the huge modding community around the game it would have died a long time ago
>>
>>718618650
That is nowhere close to what "destroyed" Skyrim. Besides, those were in Oblivion and, to a lesser extent (fast travel), Morrowind as well.
>>
>>718618471
That's the problem... we all are okay swimming in and eating up the shit.

Videogames are made for kids, man. That's the market. What do you expect?
>>
>>718613047
It's the best game of all time
>>
>>718609695
One of the best games of its time. I finished literally every quest while offline at my bro house. super fuckin dope dragon fights and funny to fus roh dah people like lydia off a mountain.
>>
>>718618888
*Some* video games are made for kids.

>>
>>718618888
It's all shit.

What's YOUR favorite flavor?
>>
>>718618869
Morrowind's fast travel was restricted enough that it didn't cause the same problems that Oblivion's and Skyrim's did.
>>
>>718619131
What videogame is made for a 30 something dude with limited time?

Videogames are made for kids and for NEET's
>>
>>718619423
>Who would possibly target a demographic with disposable income who can actually buy an 18 rated game without having to convince mommy
>>
>>718619423
And NEET's are basically kids, just bigger
>>
>>718619421
You aren't wrong. Morrowind's fast travel made sense. You hire a silt strider because you don't want to walk all that way, or you hire a boat because you don't want to walk all that way, or you teleport away because OH FUCK WHERE DID FOUR FUCKING CLANNFEAR COME FROM.

Oblivion and Skyrim, on the other hand: You don't want to walk all that way, so you... walk all that way off-camera.

I enjoyed Oblivion, but all of Skyrim's problems are Oblivion's problems taken to the next level of casualization.
>>
>>718619140
I am a lowly console peasant (PS4) and am very jealous of you m'lord. I would only dream of acquiring those mods.
>>
>>718620153
you cannot do that on ps4? that's indeed a great pity.
>>
>>718619421

Shyrim's fast travel didn't effect the game one bit...unless you use it. Are you a faggot who fast travels all over the place and doesn't bother to explore the world? I'm not, so it had no effect on my game. You though, seem to have a real problem with it.
>>
>>718619672
Yes but once again the titles made for that demographic (COD and Madden bullshit) are lacking in quality too... why..?.. because KIDS are the majority who play them.
Adults might have disposable income, but not time.
Unless you are a NET that is.

So again, majority dictates vidya
>>
>>718620454
That's not really a fair criticism though, because it didn't offer any other means of travel beside walking/horseback. As opposed to, say, hiring a boat as he mentioned.
>>
>>718620469
The vast majority of gamers today are adults. Time passes and things change. You need to look around and see what's up sometimes. Google it if you must.
>>
>>718620469
And yet despite your claims, there are plenty of video games that are good, enjoyable, and clearly aimed at a mature audience.
>>
>>718620454
To be fair, a lot of Skyrim's quests are "go to one end of the world, now go to the other end of the world for reasons, now go back". It was a bad solution to a problem that shouldn't have existed.
>>
Morrowind is by far the better game and the nerevarine would own the dragonborn like a little bitch but anyway.

do I still play Skyrim? Yes

what makes skyrim so great? Mods
>>
>>718620386
Sony won't let us put on big boy pants. No scripts or external elements allowed.
>>
>>718620614
I don't get it. I walked everywhere, even when I had a horse, I usually left it behind the the horse combat sucked. I played through Skyrim to completion 3 times and walked everywhere, completed every quest (yes, EVERY quest), and rarely rode a horse and fast traveled no more than a dozen times in hundreds of character levels. You don't need to fast travel unless you have poor impulse control.
>>
>>718620781
I assumed the Dragonborn would have won in a fight because Skyrim has no concept of balance and lets you be good at everything
>>
Skyrim was decent
not great but decent
but even before I got to whiterun I felt it needed mods just to be playable
>no waypoint
>map fog
>no fast travel
these were needed in lower res rpgs because you couldn't put direction clus into the game
Skyrim (end even Oblivion) had street signs
if a place is hard to find add to the roleplaying element and make the PC ask NPCs for direction

>better rag doll (8oz arrow traveling @ 30mph does not throw a child across a room)

after the first play through though, I felt it was too easy
and the combat was brutal because I suck at timing

so I added in cold weather survival, and realistic needs and diseases

imo, scaling everything made it a worse game that it could have been
>>
>>718620975
That is an incredibly fallacious statement
>>
So after all the mention, gotta ask. How good is Morrowind really? What are it's pros/cons? High points/low points? I'm the guy with the piece of shit PC with the Intel Chipset graphics, but I could still run Morrowind with MGE (on low settings), but I never really got into it.
>>
>>718609695
I don't because it sucked.
>>
>>718621325
I paid ~$30us
and I feel I got my moneys worth and no more
>>
>>718620975
>no impulse control
Sorry I didn't enjoy spending an hour on walking to and from on a quest that takes 30 seconds
>>
>>718621014
>lets you be good at everything
So did Morrowind.

>acquire silver weapon
>acquire Common Soul Gems
>go to tomb outside Balmora
>kill Bonelords
>sell to Creeper for 5k a pop
>pay for training
>rinse/repeat as necessary
>>
>>718621803
Fair enough, sorry. I'm much less familiar with Morrowind. It's on my 'to-do' list.
>>
>>718621144
>How good is Morrowind really?
Up to you. I fucking love it.

>What are it's pros/cons?
That's a big fucking question. Cons are dated graphics and lacking combat. Combat is usually what turns people off from Morrowind, since it's kind of annoying to swing a sword point-blank at an enemy and miss because your numbers weren't high enough.

Fortunately, there are mods for that.
>>
>>718621014

you can easily get all skills maxed in morrowind if you know what you're doing

nerevar has access to far more powerful items such as sunder, keening, Royal Signet Ring, the mazed band, 2x wraithguard, trueflame/hopesfire etc. can create custom spells, has access to many spells the dragonborn does not, nerevar is immortal/ageless and immune to disease and it is heavily implied in the nerevarine prophicies that he is also dragonborn.
>>
>>718622270
Old RPGs always seem to screw me with numbers and random chance.

The very first time I hit an enemy in Baldur's Gate my sword broke
>>
>>718620688
LIES!!!
>>
>>718622523
lmao that's amazing
>>
>>718622270

I didn't mind the graphics at all with MGE. Without that though, the faces of everyone in the game was god damn unbearable. Guess I'll have to give it a shot.
>>
>>718622454
This. the Dragonborn killed a god. The Nerevarine killed three.
>>
In your opinions which side of the civil war is it best to be on?
>>
>>718623030

At first, it was without question the Stormcloaks. However, after a few play throughs, I'm starting to realize how they are all a bunch of bigot racist fucking neanderthals crying and starting a war for crazy retard shit, and that most of the bad things that are happening in Skyrim are because of them pushing and pushing and pushing at shit until it boils over.
>>
>>718609695
it wasn't and we don't
>>
>>718623030
Imperial. Ulfric is a power-mad racist stuck in the past. The Empire may have gotten fucked by the Concordat, but internal strife and a divided Tamriel only benefits the Thalmor.
>>
>>718623030
you gotta be on the imperials side, the whole civil war is by the design of the thalmor to weaken the empire, the thalmor are the true enemy
>>
>>718623258
Interesting, I see a lot of people say this. I supported the Stormcloaks too, but I never went back through it to see another angle
>>
>>718623362

Exactly. If they weren't so short-sighted, maybe the Stormcloaks unifying with the Imperials could stand a chance of defending themselves against the Dominion, but I guess we'll never know since they can't see past their own nose.
>>
>>718623311
Speak for yourself faggot. I still play.
>>
>>718623554
Think about it, and think about what >>718623362 said as well. The Stormcloaks are a bunch of easily led lemmings doing the bidding of Ulfric who's just stringing them along with buzzwords and shit to get them all riled up.
>>
i kill every thalmor on sight, no exceptions
>>
>>718609695
It wasn't and I don't.
>>
>>718623779
Agreed. No matter what.
>>
>>718623554
Civil war is a tricky thing. From the Stormcloaks' perspective, the Empire stole their sons from their homeland, sent them off to die, and then took it in the ass from the knife-ears anyway. Their sacrifice was for nothing, and they are fucking pissed.
>>
>>718623842

Yeah but what is their sacrifice for now when they have no chance of defeating the real enemy (the Thalmor)?
>>
>>718623705
It definitely makes sense, but I don't remember enough of the story to contest or support it. Just that a lot of the "Stormcloaks are just racists" stuff I saw was on Tumblr, and I couldn't tell if there was an actual point, or just tumblrites being tumblrites, so it's interesting to see it here.

I do remember being quite disappointed that there was no apparent option to end the war without destroying one side.
>>
everyone says skyrim is super fun and I actually bought it on sale, but playing it is super boring.

I have to force myself to like it.
>>
I never played it.
>>
>>718623842
The whole thing is a sham tho. Ulfric got incepted when he was a Thalmor war prisoner into creating conflict in the region so the Thalmor could slip in and take over. It's even in the game.
>>
>>718623983
They think they'll be stronger standing alone, with the strength of Ysgramor. They're wrong, but I understand them.
>>
>>718623991
I did think Ulfric was a prick, though, I remember that
