American football isn't better, it's just a different type of strategy based game involving a ball. I enjoy American football more because of the technical and strategic decisions made by both the offense and defense play after play. Some argue that this play-by-play type of game is boring, but I find it rather enjoyable, will this drive be more of a grooling trudge downfield, playing it safely with the ground game? or will it be a shotgun inside route that ends up turning into a 50 yard gain? There are always the big breaks and last minute game-winning turnovers in all the footballs and rugbys. None of them are better than the other, none of them take any less or more skill than the other. The only reason you watch and cheer at the game you're watching is because it's the same game your dad and mates have been screaming at for years before.
