Having a choice between doing something kind or doing something evil. The moments when you are presented with this option are what humanity is all about. Mankind is unique in that we are given a choice at all, an opportunity to rise above the filthy nature around us or to debase ourselves. Other life forms are not given this opportunity because non-human life is meaningless and worthless anyway.

Yes, I hate your pets.

Hey man, I used to think this way.

My sister had a half-pit who was really sweet, but would absolutely lose her shit if she saw a cat. Instant bloodlust.

My sister and I were both visiting our parents and we both brought our dogs. My sister kept her leash on her dog and lifted a really heavy chair and put the leash under its leg and sat in the chair. Her dog was 100% contained at this point.

Cat appears.

Her dog hits 60 MPH in the two feet of slack on her leash.

Chairleash yanks her back by the neck. 360 vertical backflip. This is a normally tough dog but it actually made her yelp.

My dog goes over to her and checks her out. Then my dog walks away. "lol guess your dog is fine."

My dog returns from the room where my mom's dogs are fed, which is two rooms and 32-35 feet away.

My dog drops a piece of dogfood on the ground by my sister's dog.

I actually also read an interesting opinion an a Great Depression-era book written by a reformed career criminal who mostly committed burglaries. He said he thought that the better treatment of dogs was making them more clever and better home protectors.

Obviously animals have great limitations on their ability to reason, but after that experience at my parents' house, I think animals probably have the same conflicting drives within them. I kinda think maybe that the more domesticated an animal and its bloodline are, it probably evens out their instinctual drives and leads to more inner conflict and something closer to what we consider free will.

The meaning of life is to invent whatever "meaning" allows you to think that your life isn't shit, that your achievements aren't worthless, and that death is either a good thing or not to be feared.

Life has no inherent meaning. We have biological imperatives, but those have no more meaning than any other urges. Do as you will, but be prepared for the consequences.

If you funnel any significant amount of income towards the welfare of things which literally produce too many offspring to sustain in order to ensure that *at least one* will live long enough to do the same, not only does the human quality of life decrease but the amount of animals alive to suffer also increases.

So you've created a population of morons willingly throwing resources at a problem, only to create a bigger problem.

If by "depopulation" you mean "thinks we should let poor people die," then you're half right. I think we should penalize the decisions that lead to depending on handouts, abusing the welfare the system, and do what we can to reduce suffering by making it more difficult to reproduce if you can't provide for your offspring.

Define the Keynesian Cross without looking it up. Explain a supply and demand curve. Explain how trickle-down economics is shit (hint: that's not a trick question) and convince us that you're not a hard left college fag aiming for a degree in sociology, art, music, or gender studies.

Preserving nature because it's worked for literally all of history stops being smart when we develop the means to bypass nature entirely. We don't hunt, bacteria and injuries don't put us out of the game, murder is illegal instead of a means of competing, and we can go to other fucking planets.

But you're one of those eco-warrior vegans, aren't you?

>pathetic
>>
>>718157883
Look dude, I agree that population control is important. For instance, deer where I grew up need to be hunted. That is a fact.

However when I see a guy saying the shit you're saying, I automatically assume that you have bought into the delusion that environmentalist liberals are trying to steal your money and funnel it into worthless and/or destructive environmental programs. And that's what I'm speaking to.

You should not be afraid that protecting the environment will make you poor. That's a lie.

The guy who owns the company I work at lies all the time about this kind of shit, too. He will say that we can't pay people more, lighten the work load, or allow for more time for higher quality work, and he'll give some reason about how social programs, entitlement programs, and other liberal ways of stealing his money, are responsible.

But the biggest expense at the company is him and he literally contributes nothing to the company. He basically picked a good business to invest in about 12 years ago, but when the company started his partners were a good counterweight to him. Those partners who designed all the technology our product is based on are long gone, and he refuses to update because in his mind, the sales team brings the money into the business, and no other part of the business matters.

This is literally what he said in a speech at our Christmas party: "In this world, there are job creators, and there are job maintainers. The marketing and sales teams bring the opportunity in, and the operations team assembles the product."

In the past I've explained how we could fix our sales demo. It's outdated and many of smarter folks think we're dumb when they see it. His response was that our clients "aren't smart. If they were, they wouldn't buy from us. Haha!"

He's also been convicted of embezzling millions of dollars from his last company's retirement fund.

>He feels he is entitled to this money and everything else he believes in is to justify that.

It all comes down to merit. In an ideal world, the method that works best and is grounded in facts and realism would triumph every time. But we don't live in an ideal world.

Your boss sounds like a jackass. Weirdly enough, many of the people at the top lucked out in similar ways or decided that because they were successful that literally anything that isn't their idea is doomed to failure. But they stay rich because smarter people who work harder get hired by the companies they own and make up for the fuckheadedness at the top.

Some people literally develop a life strategy before graduating high school (if they even manage that) which can be summarized as: crank out kids and collect government checks until I'm living as comfortably as I want to.

Other people will apply for every program under the sun, whether or not they qualify or need the assistance, simply because they want all the gobmonies they can possibly get. And, more often than not, they'll qualify for something even if they don't need it.

Besides which, a pretty appalling number of existing government programs ARE worthless and destructive. And that's without accounting for all the corruption, embezzlement, and legal bullshit that happens there, as well as everywhere else.

My job is automating away other people's jobs. They don't decide to have their jobs automated away. But then my boss, the owner of the company, owns the automated system, and they are thrown back into the market.

>Preserving nature because it's worked for literally all of history stops being smart when

Yeah, again, you've been tricked. This seemingly utilitarian logic sounds great.

We give access to natural resources to private owners and industry in a controlled manner but in principle nature still possesses this quality of belonging in some form to the public.

And from that comes a belief that people have a right to life and freedom.

When it's all been replaced by patented genetically engineered organisms and machines, I will owe every minute of my life to a small handful of intellectual property holdings corporations.

I went to work on my weekend today to finish a project that my boss didn't ask for because I know he's too dumb to ask for it but will ultimately accept it if the work has already been done on it... I have to budget out time for stuff like this every day because he has no idea... your bit here is like a page out of the book of my life.

>>718159923
>Some people literally develop a life strategy before graduating high school (if they even manage that) which can be summarized as: crank out kids and collect government checks until I'm living as comfortably as I want to
This is true, but there are not enough opportunities for every person out there. Some people in the current system are FORCED to live in the streets, or do things most people wouldn't do to get by.

People are not forgiving of failure because they are convinced that tolerating it will impoverish them.

There's a great scene in Player Piano where the heir to the progenitor of the Second Industrial Revolution takes his wife to the "wrong side of town" and after failing to convince her to come see how fun this bar actually is, he says to her, "You just hate these people because you know if I hadn't married you, you'd be living here, too."

The truth is that if we just did like we used to: taxed the rich -- because they are the primary beneficiaries of our economy, the heirs to all of our autonomous machine slaves -- we would still have a middle class, and people wouldn't be resorting to such utilitarian worldviews to justify their fear of being poor.

Great perspective you have. The whole idea of hell and an afterlife of agony and pain is retarded. Like, who does that benefit? It doesn't benefit you (like punishment is supposed to) because you'll never get the chance to right your wrongs and become a better person, seeing as you'll regardless spend the rest of time being punished. Neither does it benefit god to have his own creation suffer forever.
>>
>>718154772
The meaning of life is to create your own meaning. Some get lost in their objective search for meaning, in an absurd universe. I personally imagine my life like one giant story that I am at the center of. A story that I dont know all the details to, that I am emotionally wrapped up in, and that is never finished. I dont believe in souls but I do believe that what you are is far more than your body; when you die the changes your body caused lives on through the universe, echoing for eternity. I believe the universe has always been here, and will never go away, and the big bang was just another event in the eternity of the universe
