cell phones are an ever growing market, new ones come out each year. plus, theres always dumb people beating up their phones. the parts for a new phone are high, and insurance might be better, but they just send you a refurbished one anyways and you have to wait for it.

let phone go from 100% to about 10% or less and charge all the way back up to 100%. repeat this process as many times as possible. if youre being really careful, dont charge over night and let it sit at 100% for hours. some chargers will still let voltage through and youll get a trickle of overcharge that will eventually kill your battery.
going from 100 to 10 or so builds a "memory" in your battery cells and helps with longevity.

iphones are crap. out of every 100 we get, maybe 3 are android. they just dont break as easily, but they are generally more to fix, mainly becuase its a higher quality part.
i could go way in on this, but iphones are honestly not as good, in literally every way. i reccomend a samsung device to anyone i meet.
better resolution screens, better type of screen, better battery, better frame, sd slot available, faster internals, headphone jack, less expensive to get cords for, better design, same price, better cameras, ect ect..

if you have an sd card, you can transfer that to a pc and get files off of it, or put it in another phone. as far as the phone goes, if your screen is messed up, hooking it up to a recognized pc and hopeing its in media share mode is your only option without getting the screen fixed

the screens are pretty expensive yeah, not quite 150, but you can buy the phone for 150 anyways.
and theyre pretty easy to work on... that being said, considering an s6 will run you much higher and an s7 if close $1000, an s5 is a good improvement to someone whos used to an s4. plus s5's dont break all that easily, and if he/she is still holding on to an s4, then they probably took pretty good care of it, meaning they wouldnt beat up an s5 very quickly.

yeah no i feel you on that. people dont understand they have a $1000 device in their hand at times. but those kind of people we just tell them how much it is, maybe explain WHY its so much, and if they get mad, they get mad. plenty of people are willing to pay however. i litterally fix anywhere from 10-20 screens a day on a lot of different devices. so people do come, and do pay. we have a great warranty on our parts and we have really good technicians, we even fix other shops mistakes. but ignorant people will eventually find out just how much it costs to fix their phone, and when they do, they end up coming somewhere that does it right.

An s5 is not an improvement over an s4, as a matter of fact from a repairability standpoint it's a step into the fucking dark ages, but I digress. I have been wholly unimpressed by everything that Samsung has come out with after the s4 as they all seem to be huge shiny glass pebbles designed to slip out of your hand and into the toilet as quickly as possible. Also here's another thought: what the fuck is wrong with an s4? Oh wait nothing because the majority of things that people use their phone for consist of texting, social media and email and you don't need the latest 6.7 inch brushed aluminum doorstop to accomplish that. Fuck it actually and get a cheap ass Alcatel or Blu or something. It's all the fucking same and then when it breaks you can just buy a new one.

but aside from that, the newer OS's demand more hardware wise, and older phones dont even offer newer OS's that offer certain features, so unless you are just calling and texting, and occasionally using email maybe, youll want something newer. most people do. but some older phones are good for ceratin people.
and the new samsungs are really powerful. blu phones are okay, but you get what you pay for. and newer phones are actualy easier to reapir. considering if your getting it repaired, you probably broke the screen, thats something that has to come off anyway, so youre not going to break anything and have to charge more.
