Seriously? There's a huge shortage of viable jobs out there these days and the market is flooded with all sorts of degree having "accomplished" young adults (<35) who have come out of their schools seeing the market flooded by others just like them. The "market" as business folk like to say has not adapted to the world that we live in, speaking just about the US here. Then there's these societal pressures being built up in the eyes of the naive parents about the world the situations being the same as they were, and this goes ad infininium back to everyone's parents. Just we're (20-30 year olds) are dealing with this particular problem.

Another thing that is pressuring this viewpoint in people is the pact that there are those who spread the "you got the wrong degree" shit which to an extent is true but also does not come close to grasping the extent of the situation we're all in. Likely those people had connections in the first place to get their foot in the door of whoever they are working, not to say hard work never pays off. Within this structure the american (us) family and housing structure is starting to resemble other countries like italy, mexico, spain, away from the nuclear family. Before anyone says something, I am not talking about purely how healthy an economy is, it's more about how little needs to be done and how many people can do it.

If you read this far you're probably neurotic of some person being paid to sift through messages on here, so I guess good for both of those types. For those who did, I hope we all understand the gravity of the situation we're facing and how imminent this situation is going to be in the years to come. Depends on what you do there....

Target DOES employ a lot of people with college degrees as LOD (Leader on Duty, all retail use their own terms). Basically the store director, but not the only one, for the shift. It's actually a pretty decent job for people that got shit degrees that there's not really a job market for... and from what I understand, it pays "real job" decent, like starting at 40k, and I think going up to 80k depending on where you work.

If the grown man is an LOD, that's not a bad job for a grown man, he shouldn't be laughed at. But rank and file target employees are notoriously low paid (and they prefer to fire constantly and bump people out on a technicality to keep pay low).

The individual department managers are offered very little for regular merit raises so a common raise is something like 10 cents and they come rarely. Also, being retail where MANY people are qualified for good raises and management, the only people that personally do even decently are the ones that are the manager's real life friends. If you aren't, it's as dead end as dead end gets.

If you're rank and file employee at target GET THE FUCK OUT!!! Virtually all retail pays better and pretty much all have "standard raise over time" plans (which keeps getting raises from getting dependent on being a suckass manager's bitch). Some, like costco pay quite well relative to other REAL jobs. They'll start you out at like 14 bucks, pay double on sunday, offer big regular raises, and give you good insurance.

I did Target for 2 years in college, I would highly recommend people DON'T work there. Worst place I ever worked.
