I was very briefly in prison, but I got thrown out. No joke. There's a Wikipedia article about me. It's my claim to fame. I'm a community organizer with 25 years of experience, and I was arrested while doing some nocturnal direct action for the organization. (We found out in court later they had a police plant inside our group and there was a surveillance team waiting for me.)

The cops were delighted to get me because I also organized the local copwatch program. They tried to give me bail conditions which would have put me on a curfew and banned me from almost the entire downtown core. I told the cops to cram their bail up their ass, so they stuck me in prison to wait trial. My lawyer warned me I'd be there for a year and a half to two years.

Five days later, they dragged me back into court and gave me bail with NO conditions. I didn't even have the boilerplate about not owning weapons because they didn't want me to be able to refuse. As soon as they put me inside, I recruited the range boss and started organizing the other inmates to fight for better conditions as a group -- what I've spent my whole life teaching people to do. The inmates all signed a contract agreeing to riot if they tried to separate "troublemakers" so they had to deal with us a group, and I used my media contacts to get a front page story on the shitty conditions inside.

I caused so much trouble I was literally thrown out of prison. I don't think I'd have any trouble serving real time.

(Incidentally, I beat the original charges. I filed a constitutional defence and rather than risk me setting a precedent, they dropped all the charges.)

I'm not some young, idealistic firebrand. I'm nearly 50 and still in the community organizing game, which makes me a very rare bird. Most people burn out in their 20s. It gives me a great deal of experience in terms of practical, hands-on work setting up communities and working out how they can be made to function self-sufficiently in a non-hierarchical way. I don't have awesome designs on toppling the State in some grand gesture. I fell into a complete one-sidedness when I thought being "open-minded" and "tolerant" to other ideas was something I should stand for, so naturally I thought I was a liberal. I kept subscribing to much of the liberal thinktank and realized people like Michael Moore is someone that should be a general understanding what happens when you go too far to mindset of ideas that calls itself liberal, but is neither tolerant nor open-minded to public discourse and I was guilty of something I thought I was when I wasn't. Having said that, I've refined much of what I know and subscribed to the right and almost took up the conservative label when there were fundamentalists I strongly agree with. It's hard for anyone to call themselves right or left when you go issue-by-issue, no one is that deep on one side.

I think this constant extreme political subscription is not only a bad thing, but it's keeping people more divided to a point that they're only going to make whatever party that suits them say more extreme or outrageous things for votes. I honestly don't know what to label myself, but I do like the idea of having more freedoms for both myself and neighbors while ensuring that my community isn't composed of anyone who comes in from who-knows-where just for some politicians long term goal of strengthening their party base.

I don't like this "this is what needs to be done" when nothing is that simple. Everything proposed comes with a vast amount of criticism and I think even when we generally agree with the proposal, we need to prioritize listening to the criticism so that we're not subscribed to a single party base, but generally something we agree with some concern for criticism.

I use to love arguing, but much of speech-and-debate is just making the person look wrong and getting the audience to agree with the idea that they're wrong. I don't like debating, outside the internet, I don't.

The trouble is that people gravitate towards strongly authoritarian figures to protect them. The people, as an entity, don't generally like ruling themselves. Liberal democracy isn't about the ability to own a gun. It isn't about regulation. It's about political agency, at its heart, and we the people have very little of it. I don't know if I should take advice from here but I'm about to go to prison.

I've been on probation for selling laughing gas, ended up using computer duster and got a mulligan from the PO. Just this week I got caught driving under suspension and I don't think my PO will be happy this time, she doesn't know yet.

My term is only 10 months as I've already spent 2 months in jail. I don't think it will be that bad. I'm a BIG mother fucker, like fat big though. 6'4" 365lbs. I don't think anyone will fuck with me and I always mind my own business. I'm hoping I'll be fine. I'm too ugly to be fucked.

I kind of hope there is weed in there, I love me some weed and haven't smoked in 2 years. After all the bullshits done I wont be on probation so I can smoke again, feels kind of good man.

I want more freedoms, but I don't want strings attached to it if it's at the cost of giving it up because we no longer care for ourselves. There will be many products we buy that are hazardous despites government's best efforts to ensure safety, we will risk it for convenience and luxury, but I'll be damned if we blamed business for that, it's the mirror that our fingers should be pointed at.
