My logic of order of operations makes it so multiplication of parenthesis takes priority.

None of those guys BTW.
>>
>>715811077
>>715811056
It's not 288. I'm a math teacher.
The parentheses remain after you add the 9 and the 3, you can't get rid of them until you multiply.
It looks like this:
48 / 2 * ( 9 + 3 )
48 / 2 * ( 12 )
48 / 24
2

The answer is two. It's easy to get confused. Just remember, there is no left to right rule with multiplication or division because of the commutative property. The parentheses are how you know in what order to work the problem.

:-)
>>
>>715810903
24*12=288
>>
Galaxy s7 edge calculator wont lie

Though I can explain...
If 48 /(2*(9+3)) answer would be 2. But notice that there is no brackets around the 2*(9+3) so the first goes 48/2 which is 24 then × 12 which is 288.
>>
>>715811664
>My logic of order of operations
thats not how this works you dont just do math how you feel like it.

there is no "multiplication of parenthesis" its Brackets, exponents, multiply and divide, add and subtract.

so we start off with the parenthesis and do those first then after that we multiply and divide from left to right then add and subtract from left to right.

There's no difference between brackets and parentheses in math. You use different ones at different times to reduce room for confusion, like the multi colored parentheses in Excel functions. And there is no left to right rule for multiplication / division. It's commutative.
>>
>>715811949
why does

48 / 2 * (12) turn into 48/24? why would you multiply before you dived even though the multiplication is in brackets?

its not commutative if you get a diffent result doing the math the other way around. you are literally just throwing out math terms to sound more legit.

involving the condition that a group of quantities connected by operators gives the same result whatever the order of the quantities involved, e.g., a × b = b × a.

in this scenario that does not apply.

It's not 2 either, it's 288. Order of operations first, (meaning, in this case, do what's in the brackets) then you only have division and multiplication left and they have the same priority so you just go from left to right.

>>
How stupid can people be? This is so fucking simple.
FIRST you do the parantheses (or brackets, same thing) one by one, whereever they appear.
SECOND you do the exponents one by one, whereever they appear.
THIRD you do the multiplications and the divisions, which have exactly the same worth, one by one in the order they appear, from left to right.
FOURTH you do the additions and divisions, which have exactly the same worth, also one by one in the order they appear, from left to right.
FIFTH you get a correct result.
I hope that people in this thread are trolling. Mankind is fucked if they are not. You write down a mathematical combination, and that is how you solve it. Exactly as it is written! You can't alter it in any way. You can't add any signs as you please. You can't add parentheses where there are none. You can't solve in the order you happen to decide. There are rules in maths. Rules that are to be followed.
Maths can only be solved in exactly ONE way, and that is the RIGHT way.
End of story.

The parentheses do not disappear after the addition, and they still take priority, forcing the multiplication to happen next.

expalin why it goes

48/2(12)

48/24

instead of going

48/2(12)

24(12)

according to PEMDAS you do it the second way. its not

48/(2(12))

In that case it would then become

48/24

but we don't have an extra bracket.
>>
>>715813341
Amen
>>

>>
>>715814314
In this case, they're trying to beg out the answer 288. In order to get that it would need to be expressed as 48/2*(9+3), not 48/2(9+3). The left parenthetical gets evaluated and has a sub-step of multiplying the 2 before you get to the MD in PEMDAS. In this case it's PmEMDAS.
