I've been around 4chan pretty much since it was created. Not constantly, but I dropped in from time to time. Heard about it when it was brand new. Checked it out, I didn't really stay. There honestly wasn't much going on during the first year of 4chan. Very slow, few users and lots of server downtime because moot was like 15 and couldn't afford the server bills. So it really sucked. But it grew fast and within a couple of years I was spending a ton of time on 4chan because it was more active and actually pretty funny back then. Then it got too big, too fast and the community changed. It wasn't funny, there was too much spam, too many reposts. I knew in 2007 it was changing. By 2011 it was almost unbearable. Now I rarely come here anymore. Don't care if you believe that I'm a very oldfag or not. Just felt like sharing my lame story of my years wasted on a crappy anime website.

/b/ really hasn't declined in quality all that much. It was cancer even then, and the oldfags have been apocalyptic about board decay since when I first joined. But really, everything is fine. I don't really get this new trend of shitting up YLYL with bananas and before that spidermen, because I figured laughter was a pretty non-controversial thing and shitting on it strikes me as more weird than anything. Like a pregnant women eating salad folder. Its just a strange way to spend your time, son.

But I have been very grateful there is a genuine bastion of free speech- a true community of it really- and I hope Hiroshimoot's stewardship keeps it as pure and septic as it always has been. As public media culture gets ever more toxic and politically correct, it pleases me to know there's still a community of well adjusted people who are mature enough to talk about whatever.

And that is the heart of /b/, actually. It may not seem like it, but we actually are the most well adjusted and *liberal* group of people you can find in the english speaking world.
