What is the worst nightmare you've ever had?

Having my head chopped off by a dragon. Horrible coughing fit once I woke up.

When I was young I was afraid of the movie Gremlins. I had a dream where my grandfather picked me up from school and tore back his face to reveal 3 layers of top teeth one on top of the other. He then morphed into a three eye'd gremlin with orange skin and started tearing open my stomach and ribs and ripping flesh and organs out of my body.

When I woke up I almost immediately vomited and could swear that I was in actual pain. I was something to the tune of 6 years old at the time. It haunted me for almost a decade.

Had a dream I was trapped in a cement box with no windows or doors (no idea how I could breathe) that was too short for me to stand all the way up, and too narrow for me to lay down. In the dream I had to stay in an uncomfortable crouched position. Shit freaked me out.

Not really a nightmare, just weird. I was watching a train track and the train changed sizes as it went through a hallway, which I knew was a tunnel, then I saw my father who I haven't seen in years, then I ended up in my grandparent's garage. I was being chased by police, then I got shot in the chest. The bullet ruptured my lung and I felt the air escaping from it, then I started waking myself up, but I heard a bunch of doctor's voices around me. I couldn't quite make out what they were saying but I had a feeling I was in a coma so I started to force myself awake. When I woke up I got my bearings and realized it was a dream, but it was the most realistic dream I've ever had.

I have recurring dreams of a home invasion. The last one two black guys and a black kid were in my house trying to steal my tv. I shot at them with my pistol I keep by my nightstand and they ran but the kid pulled a gun and I shot him in the chest. There was blood all over my living room floor and I was desperately trying to apply combat first aid to the kid.

I remember sticking a needle decompression in him and letting the blood drain from his lung and sticking a tampon into his bullet wound all the while I'm panicking because i didn't want to have to shoot him but he left me no choice.

My dream then went into the future where I'm plastered all over the news being labeled a racist and a murderer, eventually the police arrest me then I woke up. Pretty shitty dream

had a dream last night where i was running through my yard from something with a really really long jump rope from elementary school in my hand. it was rolling out like cable. cable kept getting stuck on trees. I yelled "ALLOW" and it went through tree. did this a few more times, thought randomly comes to me, idk why... "you're in a dream." so i begin yelling allow repeatedly so it allows my rope cable to pass through trees and not keep getting stuck. my dream shits itself, i hear a loud whistle (like one used by referees) as if someone just blew it right into my ears (right ear especially) and i wake up. first time ive ever realized i was in a dream guys

in short, my dead mother telling me she is disappointed in me. that she blames me for not saving her. I was a kid. It's been over a decade and I still have that nightmare.

Had Night Terrors as a kid. Worse than any nightmare. Literally felt yourself going mad but unable to stop it.

The worst dream of my fucking life. It cause me to not sleep for two days.

Had a dream I got curbstomped and was dealing with waking up and realizing my life was fucked forever and I was going to live with no teeth and a fucked up skull and then I had this surge of adrenaline like somone was chasing me so I started running all over the place and my teeth were falling out and I tasted blood and then I got shot and everything turned white and peaceful and warm and I felt like I was drifting away and I was filled with bliss and I woke up smiling and I'm no longer scared to die. I sleep next to a sliding glass window leading to the back yard. I've had this dream a couple times then it stopped for now.

Mother told me that the doctor's results were back and that I had cancer and that my chance of surviving was essentially nonexistent. The normality of the nightmare is the reason why it is my worse, it reminds me that unlike a gargantuan ghoul that chases me, I could actually face this one day.

I had a dream where me and my ex who I still miss everyday were in my house with a bunch of other random people and when I tried hugging her she pushed me away and told me to get away etc. Didn't want anything to do with me. When I woke up I felt horrible because in shitty dreams when u wake up you expect to wake up and be relieved it was fake but when I woke up the realization hit me that she was actually gone forever and I was never getting her back.

I had a dream I was in Hitler's bunker in 1945, but all of the occupants were dead. I Remember walking into a bedroom and seeing the dead Goebbels children, which was the worst part.

Had a dream about work then at work the next day I did what I dreamt. Which made that dream a nightmare cause it felt like I work the same day twice. Wasn't even cool I dreamt the future.

I once had a dream that the guy from Phil of the Future was brain-washing and mind controlling the children of America's schools through television and standardized testing. I recall that he used videos of unicorns running through fields in particular.

The last few moments of the dream, I was in the kitchen with the TV on and he was on the screen just staring at me with a couple of buttons in front of him. I turned the TV off because I was freaked out, but it flickered back on to him pressing one of the buttons. He said something like "this is the TV channel that's always on" or something.

Last thing I remembered was walking out of the kitchen and getting back in my bed. I don't remember waking up from the dream. This all happened when I was like 8, I'm 21 now and still remember it for some reason.

Looking around erratically
Everyone standing around, watching in horror
Pedestrian insists to get up
Proceeds to crawl, hands and bloody stumps of femurs across the hot summer concrete
Wake up to the sound of bone on concrete

I have insanely real dreams every night. Last night dream starts and im in an apartment with a bunch of bunk beds and its full of people that i know. i lay down to go to sleep and hear a bunch of noise and voices raised. look and see bunch of people on balcony looking at something out in the city. get up go down stairs apartment on second floor. couple of people i know go in front they go across the street but i stop just outside the door. have extreme feeling of danger and see something moving towards the small group of people. turn and run into apartment as i hear screaming behind me. as im going up the stairs there is this daemon baby thing going up in front of me. im very scared in that dream way where you really think this is happening. deamon baby turns down hall the other way from my apartment. run down hall slam door scream at people still on balcony to get inside and close door. look at tv end of the world shit going down. look out side explosions screams. wake up in a cold sweat. doesnt sound so bad but the visceral feeling of fear was pretty intense.

cockroach crawls into arm and i can see it moving around, like that scene in the mummy

have to bite through my arm to get it out, am and always have been terrified of cockroaches, dont normally get scared of anything

Overall it may not seem that scary, but watching your childhood friend, someone you trusted with your life, turn into something unearthly really shook my core
I didn't sleep well for the next week and generally tried to avoid being alone at night

I just felt all my bones breaking until I was mush. Then I woke up and had a nose bleed. Good times.

To this day, nearly 50 years later, the scariest dream I ever had was climbing to my too bunk bed at bed time and getting attacked by my blankets. In the dream, I would push them to the end of the bed because it was warm and I didn't need them, only to have them rush back up over me and try to smother me.

Had that dream several times and it always resulted in 6-year-old me waking up screaming and crying and tangled up in my blankets.

A plane had crashed down my street and created with it a chemical electrical storm of some kind that caused a black hole to form, except instead of removing light, it expelled it in addition to sucking up everything nearby.

I tried desperately to run from it as it was just setting the expiration date for earth, yet when trying to flee my town, a police officer had driven me back into town closer to the bright black hole.

I then watched a news report of how people were going into the black hole in denial of their fate, attempting to reach placation.

I once had a super real feeling dream about my boyfriend. We were out on our way to a lunch with friends which we do often enough. He parked street side and when he got out of the car he had started to walk around to the sidewalk and was hit by a car right in front of me. I screamed and saw him die and I woke up crying. The shirt he was wearing is one he actually owns and I couldn't even look at it without feeling sad so I hid it from him so he'd never wear it.

Back when I was in early grade school I used to have a recurring nightmare about a school shooting-type scenario, though at the time I'd never heard of school shootings and wouldn't have known anything about them.

so i did some thinking, lucid dreaming might not be the best way to do this
you know how that one guy had his shoes irl transplanted into the dream? my theory is that he was wearing those because he subconsciously identifies with them in his waking life. In other words, you wear in the dream what you usually wear irl. Therefore, it would be much easier to coordinate what to wear while you are awake (here for instance) and then starting wearing that a lot, hopefully, that is what you end up wearing in sleepy shadow

I had a set of recurring nightmares in some mansion with an echoing grandfather clock and every door had something scary in it, like the bathroom had some twitching skeleton, and this other one had my mom hooked up to some like demonic milking device, and every now and then the clock would chime and always count to midnight. When I woke up it continued and I heard something whispering to me in real life and I was unable to move for 10 seconds. I still don't like thinking about it.

Not pretyped so if any errors I apologize.. In this dream I was job hunting and decided to go to the hospital and apply. When I get there it looks like a library inside not a hospital. Go to front desk see a nurse sitting behind it ask her about the job. She says wait she'll get the manager. Comes back with some older balding black gut wearing spectacles. He says follow me for interview. Leads me to a big set of steel do u or doors with teeny tiny square Windows on them. Opens door and says you first. As soon as I step through he closes the door and locks me in. I look at him through the window he says I'm sorry then walks away. Look around me. Am in an all white room about the size of an elevator. Two silver doors I just came through and two more behind me. Check them, both are still locked. Look all around the room and notice a button on the doors behind me. Click it and the door swings open revealing a long white hallway. In the hallway are empty turkeys some have white sheets on them. Have eerie feeling like something is about to jump out at me but it doesn't. Walk to end of hallway see single white door. Enter it. This room has a narrow strip of tiled floor running up the center of it and on each side of the strip is a pool of lava. Lava is moving fast and spirals of it are shooting out of one pool and into the other and vise versa. Look up see a balcony. See zombie doctor sitting on balcony arms moving about as it he is conducting the lava all while laughing maniacally. Too scared to move but realize want stand here all day plus seems he hasn't noticed me. Spontaneously run as fast as I fucking can across the strip narrowingly avoiding lava. See door under balcony. Burst thru it. Another hallway but this time is dark purple almost black and the walls have holes all over the place looked like moldy swiss cheese or something and was oozing green shit. Can see door with little window on it at the end. .. Continue?

When I say this was the scariest fucking dream i've ever had in my entire life I mean it. I just called my girlfriend and told her all about how someone had the same dream as me. She didn't believe me until I said he called me out on my red converse. She told me that I needed to stop thinking about it and just forget it or I might dream it again. When I was a small child about 4 I remember being outside a old high school in a rural village in Alaska during winter. I went into the arctic entry way and noticed that the door locked me inside so I went in the school and I herd someone coming so I had under some chairs and these really old looking nuns walk creepily down the stairs their sunken faces locked on me and walk passed me outside. I have OCD (diagnosed by a psychiatrist, not made up tumblr shit). About 2 years ago, when I was a senior in high school, I had a dream that I was walking along the road by where my house was when it was the middle of the night. I dropped a piece of aluminum foil by accident on the road while a car was coming. I knew I should just leave it there, but because I had OCD, I had to grab it, so I ran forward and grabbed it and then dove out of the way of the car at the last second (it was so close to me that I felt a gush of wind as it sped past me). After that, I started crying uncontrollably (in the dream, not in real life) thinking about how if I had died from the car it would be the stupidest death possible and how I'd have no way to even be able to explain how I died like this. After that, I woke up shaking and shivering, and couldn't fall back asleep for another 2 hours.

I was at a table sitting in front of two girls (it was like a teaparty kinda thing) I had my head down and wasn't able to look up for some reason. I once dreamt I was ontop of some sort of mesa or butte type thing. My mom, sister and myself were lined up in front of the house and my dad was pacing back and forth like a drill sergeant scolding us all for some reason. He would get in our face and scream our faces for whatever reason. At the end of the dream he took out a sword, cut my arm off and kicked me off the mesa. I remember the sensation of falling and then I woke up.

I grew up in kind of abusive household. Verbal and domestic abuse so it's not really a surprise I had some sort of dream like that. Nothing ever done to me really, but the people around me. Was a strange dream that always stuck with me and made me look at my dad differently.

I've remembered all my dreams since 7 and it's fucked. I always have certain reoccurring dreams.

>Dream one: The woods.
>Be young when I had this dream

I'm not the previous anon, but everyone experiences sleep paralysis differently.

To me it's basically like I'm being pushed underwater with unimaginable force. I literally cannot breathe for a sold 7 seconds. Sort of like those water torture devices where they strap you down and put a cloth over your face and douse you with water. I would never wish this feeling upon anyone.

Wandering through old houses that are dilapidated, always with a weird sense of dread. I can never leave for some reason, and I only wake up when the dread completely incapacitates me, or I meet some demon possessed friends.

Had a sleep paralysis with my eyes open, with my door in my vision.
There was a knock in my always unlocked door.

Three knocks.

I anticipated something's gonna happen.
Five seconds later a face peeked through the door.
The darkness made it obscure to make out the details of the face but it clearly isn't normal.
The mouth seemed to stretch ear to ear when it smiled. It had this dark eyebags and pale white skin. We stared at each other for 20 seconds, with me in cold sweat. I was exhausted experiencing sheer terror.

Then it slowly entered the door and entered the room.
Its hunchbacked posture made it all the more creepy and it seemed to be inspecting me. It had its long fingers crossed together and somewhat smiling in a sly manner.

It went over and bent close to my face, i could feel its warm putrid breath. I woke up in a jolt when it was about to bite my face whole. I was frantically scanning the darkness for any signs of it in case it attacked.
It felt so fucking real especially when you're having a nightmare with eyes wide open. I woke up with burning itchy feeling on my eyes

not a nightmare, more just like a disgusting dream, and i had it just this morning:

it had something to do with a sort of stadium/event where there were large crowds of people, and it was very dark at night. anyways i somehow went around and way somewhere in the recesses of these crowds would be these absolutely horrifying groups of people who all appeared to be south american/hispanic and they were all naked and covered in blood and many of them were dismembered or were having their limbs cut off on the spot and it was all an act of enjoyment, like extreme sexual fetishism. and they would all look at me like i'm just some random animal, ignoring me and continuing to mutilate themselves and some of them would try to shit out of their asshole but there would be no poop it would just be like some bloody fleshy stuff, and also there were some half-dead beings which basically looked like prematurely born fetuses that were also all bloody and deformed. and in the dream i just went around and tried to escape this terror of humanity but there were a lot of them. so yeah, fucked up, but not really a nightmare because i didn't wake up screaming or heart pounding or anything, just completely disgusted. thanks 4chan

A nightmare I used to have about 10 years ago was me walking up some step, and looking into a black pit. After looking I would jump and fall into the darkness where then my chest would feel like its cramping and getting squashed. After falling for about 5 seconds I would wake up with a tear in my eye. However I have had this dream many times, but each time for some reason the steps I would climb would have a differet look the them.

My nightmares all have a common theme of me not being able to achieve something no matter how hard I try.

For instance I have had several dreams of me running away from something, always not being fast enough, and feeling like something is holding me back

There has also been several dreams where no matter how hard I try to kill someone they just won't die. I had a dream once of a man breaking it to my house, and me hitting him on the head over 20 times with a heavy crowbar, he was completely fine and kept coming after me.

The worst though was when I had a dream about a doll similar to chucky, he was rather small and I stomped him, threw him, beat the utter shit out of him, and he just kept getting up. He was fast as hell too, when he got to me he stabbed me and I woke up. It was the only time I've done the cliche shoot up from a dream thing

I had this years ago, i dremed of being in a middle of a war, everything is black and white and i just remember being in a city completely destroyed, and was winter, with snow covering the streets. And i saw my crush (form that time) and she was also wearing a soldier uniform, she was like moving the snow from the streets with a shovel, after that i went like to battle, but in the way to the battlefield we turn back, and turns out the enemy attacked the city we where before. and when we came back theu are no enemy soldiers or anything, just an already destroyed city looking more depressive and devastated then before. and in that a cart with dead bodies came by my side, and i saw my crush dead corpse in the cart, mutilated.

I once had a dream when I was very little. In it I was in my bed, when suddenly my parents turned on the light and told me to come with them. I stood up and went to the living room, where we stood in the dark together, with only the corridor lamp shining through the entrance. Suddenly 3 shadows with literal eyeballs came into the room and we went up in colored flames, turning to ash in like 5 seconds.

Another dream I had was when I was in 8th grade. I was having some sort of party with my friends in my room when a humanoid grasshopper-like insect came through the door. It had bandages all over him like some sort of mummy

I was in full military gear, collecting the stuff as I went along in the dream. I walk into a building with my father, youngest male sibling and several other life enemies. I take the belt I have my grenades hanging on off, pull all the pins and walk outside. Windows blow out and shit. I walk in, seeing them all get up, wounded but alive, from the wreckage. I empty my assault rifle into them, reload, fire again. They still don't die. I pull out a huge ass knife and start attacking them, stabbing and cutting with one hand and using my assault riffle as a club with the other hand. I only manage to make them bleed and knock them around. WTF? Why won't they die. They start grabbing at me and stuff. I woke up screaming "Die!" over and over again.

I was kidnapped by a taxi driver and his family. Said f it and took the wheel of the taxi and ramed that focker head on into a bus the next thing after that was me waching from above the crash site and go into my body. After that I woke up.

Had a dream I was naked in a tree with a platform in it and a raccoon attacked me and started biting my balls and when I woke up my balls hurt still. Thought they popped in the night

sleep paralysis is fucking terrifying, first time I ever had it I had no idea what the fuck it was.

This one is more creepy and dark.
I just woke up, and walk around my house and realize there is not a soul but me, its all dark inside and outside the house, kinda like there is no sun. I hear someone sobbing, i follow it and i ended up in my sisters room, but their si no one inside, and again i hear sobbing but now from the bathroom inside my parents room, i enter it and there she is, one of my sisters just crying above the toilet, but she was crying something black like oil or shit i dont know. she stares at me, and i notice she has clack eyes but with red iris, she then starts laughing softly and saying to me "They are coming for you" a lot of times but everytime she say it she starts to talk mor and more fast. Im standing there like an idiot and ask her "Who? Who is coming?" she stops almost immediately and his grin now is a sick smile, "Them" and points behind me, I slowly turn around and there is nothing, i turn again to my sister and i flinch because she is now inches form my face, still with that sick smile and red eyes with black tears. "You cant escape from them" blood starting to come out form the walls and everything becomes darker and darker, after i cant see anything. "They will get us all eventually" was the last thing i remember after waking up in the middle of the night, sweating and bleeding from my nose. i just cant get over that dream

I had an intense dream where I was drowning, wake up and open my eyes only to see that there is a bald and angry dude sitting over me with a firm grip around my throat, strangling me. I can't move at all, I get even more mad than him and tries to fight him off, wants to kill him.

Years ago I dreamt about me, my best friend and his girlfriend. We were walking through some woods and came across a cemetery, with big white burial vaults. We noticed some people in black hooded robes pulling coffins out of them, and dumping the bones inside into the back of a truck.
The main guy saw us and yelled at us and sent his cronies after us.
They grabbed us and dragged us back. When we got there, he took off his hood, and it was the pastor of our church, only really evil looking.
We asked what he was doing, and he said he was "saving souls for God". For some reason my buddy hauled of and hit him, and he looked right in our eyes and said "You're all DEAD!".
He reached out ad touched my fried, and immediately he turned into a skull faced monster and started chasing us. His girlfriend and I took off, and finally got away. It was pretty freaky, but the weird part came later.

After church the next Sunday, I was telling my friend and his family about it (They were the only ones I told), when one of the deacons of the church drove up. He came over to me and said "God showed me last night you had a dream, and I'm supposed to tell you what it meant. He then laid it all out, exactly as it happened, down to the most minute details.
It had to deal with the Pastor being so hung up on getting a large number of members of the church (presumably for more tithe and offering $$$) that he would bring in the dead if he could. The bible talks abut people being like tombs painted white and looking so clean on the outside, yet full of death and decay on the inside. He was trying to get people who were bad news to be involved with the church. Not sinners, They belonged there. But people who were morally ad spiritually corrupt. Who would run the church into the ground before it was over.

A bunch of us left the church not long after for other reasons, but he ended up doing just that. People were threatened, ripped off, and the church ended up being burned down, and the Pastor arrested for embezzling.

I've had night terrors since I was 8 years old. My nightmares were always realistic. I would have dreams of getting out of my bed and walking around doing normal activities. I'd see my family and friends get raped, killed, slaughtered etc. Wake up in cold sweat screaming at the top of my lungs. I get jitters, even talk in my sleep. Previous girlfriends have said I'd say things like "no please" or "please stop" in deep sleep. My worst night terror was like this

Night before I graduated high school:

Dreamt that I was driving along a cliffside road - a steep rock wall at my right and a divider separating me from sheer cliff on my left. The road is empty and I seem to be too high up to see any trees or landscape; only a cloudy sky drawn far into an unending horizon. The road ahead softly curves against the cliff, and eventually something peaks around the bend - far in distance. As I draw closer, I see that it's a car, smashed to bits and spattered with blood. A body is out next to it, bloody and crumpled. In the dream, I pulled around the wreck and attempted to continue, but was stopped by more wrecked vehicles and more bodies. I get out of the car and begin walking past the mess. Blood is sprayed everywhere, and I see more and more bodies scattered amidst the battered sedans and trucks. More bodies than could have fit into the cars. As I step around a mid-sized flatbed truck, whose bed holds a pile of a few dozen stripped corpses, I am met with a wave of heat. The truck had been blocking my view of the road ahead, but in passing it I see an endless stretch of cars soaked in blood and gore. There's movement, too. I see hundreds of mutilated people amidst the wreckage, some kneeled in agony, others stumbling around. I walk past one man whose skin has been peeled off in large patches along his body. His face was the worst; his eyes stuck wide open without their lids, and his teeth forcibly forming a tombstone grin. None of them acknowledge me as I walked. The clouded sky has grown darker and darker, and a red sun shines through them. I remember getting tired.

My dream ended soon after this. I woke up completely drenched in sweat with this intense pain in my chest.
