i have to get a new pickguard/toneknobs? what about s1 switch, will it make shit more complicated?
>>
>>714926117
Yes, you will have to get a new pickguard to fit in the three single coils.

http://www.irongear.co.uk/strat_standard_v04_igwatermark.gif

Use this if you are using a 5 way switch and just solder it, it's really easy to do. Using an orange drop capacitor is your choice, some say they can hear the difference in tone some think it's more akin to snake oil.

Check out youtube guides, it basically boils down to basic soldering.

not him but isnt tonewood rly a myth? im not an expert but from what i've heard its the overall built quality that makes a guitar sound great no matter what the material is. please correct me if i'm wrong
>>
>>
>>
>>714930004
Unlike some claim, tonewood does affect the tone but not as much some other people claim. Basically different woods attenuate different frequencies, so there's a slight difference in tone but things like dryness of the wood are arguably a bigger part of the tone and sustain.
Here's one article demonstrating the subtle differences:
http://guitarworks.thestrandbergs.com/2014/12/28/the-impact-of-wood-choice-in-an-electric-guitar/
It's not science but good enough.

Overall the amp (including speakers) is the biggest part of your tone, certain pedals can have just as big effect, then come pickups, guitar cable makes a surprisingly big difference (but mostly on how well you actually hear your rig instead of hum), then wood and last the plectrum, unless you use certain playing techniques (for example the snappy sound in surf music).

Yeah, no. Unnecessarily heavy, unergonomic, short scale, two frets missing, weak neck... Not to mention it's a Gibson and not one of the million superior copies.
>>
>>714933654

If he prefers his guitars to have weight and has no interest in a 24 fret neck (which for all intents and purposes is only two notes), why exactly is that guitar bad?
>>

You already said what I tried to prove: it's a matter of preference. The guitar isn't bad but it's not better than other guitars in this thread either. I'll stick with my glorious Nippon instruments.

>>
>>714938099
i was looking at this one in particular because the regular squier strat didnt come with a humbucker and the hss has a crunchier tone when played with high gain, mainly looking to play some metal
>eventually kek
I heard some people really like this guitar but as you said, dropping some extra money on it can make it pretty good
>>
>>714937579
Its OK but the some of the 'classic vibe' squires are alot better for a bit more monies. But then again they wouldn't come with an amp.
>>
>>714938191
The end of January I believe. However this guitar is a copy of George Lynches tiger not Satchels. Although I am also a fan of steel panther.
>>
I am a Washburn fan. I primarily use a Washburn WI-64 Idol with a Seymour Duncan SH-2 (jazz) pickup in the neck, and Seymour Duncan Invader in the bridge. My other main guitar is a Washburn WI-50V Idol with EMG 85/81 neck/bridge - this one has the original German crafted floyd rose and whatnot. They made a few shittier model versions before terminating the line, but the real deal WI-50V is great.
I have been thinking about replacing the 85/81 with Seymour Duncan Nazgul. Any thoughts?
>>
>>714938309
You are thinking on the right lines with the humbucker. My friend owns a USA fender strat with a humbucker at its really good for loads of different tones

>>
>>714939388
Arguably the best decision you've ever made.
>>
>>714937579
Save more money. That pack is a waste of money and you'd soon have to buy a new guitar. My first guitar was an Ibanez RG321 (300€) and first amp Roland Micro Cube (100€). In hindsight I should have saved a couple of hundred more for a better practice amp. So at least 300 for guitar and 200 for amp. That way if you're smart with your decisions, you don't have any pressure to upgrade your gear any time soon. Think this as a long term investment. I still play the Ibanez whenever I visit my parents but the amp is total garbage, i.e. 100€ of wasted money.

My recommendations:
>Ibanez RG421
>Vox AV15 or Marshall Code 25
>A variety of plectrums
>Not the cheapest guitar cable
>Pretty much any strap
>Pretty much any tuner
>>
>>714939388
As the other guy said earlier as long as you get it setup so its nice to play modern day squires are pretty decent.
>>
>>714939731
mah nigga my first amp was the little microcube also
>>
>>714939388
>>714939731
To be honet though the amp is the let down in that pack.
>>
>>714939731
Like I said, im on a budget of like $300, while I would think long term, I don't even know if I'm going to play guitar for real, I just want to pick it up as a hobby to see if I like it, i'd like to be able to save some money if I don't enjoy it.

>>714939971
I think 10 years ago everyone had one.

>>714940070
The guitar will fail sooner than the amp, no matter how bad the amp sounds.

>>714940095
Better gear is easier to sell, if you end up disliking playing guitar. Used gear is another option for you but I still stand by my arguments. You need more money, because cheapest guitars just aren't good enough. They don't stay in tune, a lot of times there's something wrong with the build... The least you can do is find a guitar with a fixed bridge. You don't need a trem in the beginning or maybe ever but a cheap trem will surely cause your guitar to go out of tune quickly.
Besides, having a guitar that's not horrible to play will inspire you to practice more.
>>
>>714940710
Why not? Seriously; say you're starting out like I was and don't feel like dropping 100$/pedal, wouldn't it make sense to make it adjustable? Besides, if you're starting out, I doubt you'll be able to tell the difference in sound between a fender or marshall amp, or at the very least, it won't make your fingers missing notes sound any better...

>>
>>714941433
Definitely not the B.C. Rich and trems on cheaper Ibanez guitars are horrible, so most likely the Les Paul is the safest choise but you didn't say which brand it is and what you play. I'd go with a fixed bridge Ibanez regardless, because they're more ergonomic to play than Les Pauls and tonally more versatile right out of the box.

For an acoustic guitar, maybe. You could play 100 acoustics, same model/brand/shape/wood... they'd all sound different. Probably not noticeably tho. Electric guitar, it comes down to the electronics. Either way it's generally insignificant. You wanna spend thousands on a guitar you think sounds better? Ok... more justifiable if you'll be making millions with it
>>
>>714944396
Ok. Bad investment for you in my opinion. Many metal players use Les Pauls but it's not ideal and because you're already accustomed to playing a superstrat, I'd say you should stick with those. If you are willing to spend that much money, here's what I'd recommend:
http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/RG652HMFXNGB (It's blueish green, if that matters.)
http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/RG652FXGK (Same guitar as above but without fancy paintjob and tonewoods.)
Both are made in Japan, have DiMarzio pickups, high quality hardware and good build quality. Gibson's quality assurance hasn't been great in recent years, not to mention the ergonomics that are an acquired taste.

If you want to spend less money, there's FGN, which is the in-house brand of factory that makes those Prestige Ibanez guitars. Same quality but with less money, because you don't have to pay for the name. They also have a modernized version of Les Paul called Flame but that particular model series may be out of your budget.

All in all I think you should learn more about guitars. You seem a bit lost with this purchase.

don't jump into electric guitar playing if your budget isn't up to snuff. chances are you will stop playing within a year no matter what, but if you buy gear that is below a certain threshold, it really kills the enjoyment and you won't want to learn. take some time saving up a bit more cash and lurk around on forums and watch demo videos of guitars that are similar to your favorite players guitars and once you have some coin, buy some used stuff that isn't in bad condition if you feel confident to know if somebody is trying to scam you. shouldnt be too hard and you can always just look for used stuff from stores if you are really too afraid. i went with my dad and bought a mexican strat from some old hippie when i was 15 and have been playing ever since.

i play a mesa as my practice amp. thing sounds fucking amazing. for years i thought mesas were just for metal, but after i heard a lonestar, i got interested in their other amps and eventually found a subway rocket in great condition on craigslist for a good deal and snatched it up like 3 years ago. been playing it ever since and i doubt ill ever get rid of it.
>>
>>714944809
They're too expensive in Europe and they don't have any low wattage models.
>>
>>714943322
You'd better have giant, lanky hands to play that monster without just putting it on your lap. Wonder what kind of music you could get out if it though
>>
>>714946075
>>714944887
I'll check those out but what about this guitar? It looks alot like the beast but it's ibanez
>>
>>714946362
They were great once. Neil Moser is now the name to know, if you want your guitar to double as a weapon.
>>
>>714946093
to add to this, so long as you are buying used and buying gear that will hold its resale value fairly well, you can always just sell it and get at least most of your money back if you take okay care of it. makes it not so bad if you stop playing and sets you up for when you look to upgrade if you stick with it.

It's some cheap Indonesian Ibanez that's surely a nightmare to play. That body can't feel good.

Seriously, you don't seem to know what you want or much about guitars in general, so take your time to study them. Then you can make decisions on your own.
>>
Hmmmm -

My guitars include - Gibson firebird. 2 telecasters, Gibson les Paul standard, Martin acoustic, Yamaha silent guitar, Washburn traveller and I've just bought 2 line 6 guitars. Variax 700 and jtv 59. I can't fault the line 6 ones. They superseded my other guitars now.
>>
>>714946844
Too much for an apartment. I'm not in a band, so no training space. Even 5 watts is too much but there aren't many amps below that, so my Lionheart will have to suffice for now. I hope I can get my own house soon. Then I don't have to worry about watts that much.
>>
>>714946927
Ah, it was just a question, it's nice to hear anons responses sometimes, thanks for your help, I'd narrowed it down to those three that I liked but now I'll try and look for more guitars
>>
>>714947369
I mean thats a personal problem more than anything. For most people anything under 25 watts is a low watt amp. Your better off using an amp sim in an apartment.
>>
>>714948149
Still, there's a product I need but Mesa/Boogie doesn't make. I think many people would apprecieate lower wattage amps for home use but for some reason amp companies don't make them. I guess it's because of this misconception guitarists have that you need at least 500 W to keep up with a drummer in your garage and that anything below that is not manly enough.

I don't like sims or anything software based. A real amps is nicer to use, sounds better and there's always possibilities to tinker with it, like do mods, switch the tubes or speaker...
>>
>>714948149
I good quality attenuator could remedy this situation. Good ones are pricey though.

My boys
>>
>>714949249
Possibly but I think it's better to design the amp from gound up to be relatively quiet.
>>
>>714950204
There is certainly a limit to how far you can attenuate. It works better with master volume amps. I have a 100w jcm200 dsl. If i put the master volume on 2, then turn on my attenuator and put in studio mode. I can play at the same volume as talking and it still sounds decent.
>>
>>714950179
What's that Goldtop?
>>
>>714950204
But most low wattage amps are relatively quiet. Anything under 10w you might as well buy solid state.

>>
>>714950742
I must say a 5w Marshall Class 5 is pretty darn loud.
>>
>>714950731
What attenuator do you use?

>>714950742
Nope. A 5 watt amp is around half as loud as a 50 watt amp and that's loud. I can't turn the volume on my Laney beyond 2 without annoying neighbors. At 4 you need ear plugs. Power amp starts to break up at 5, so the best sounds can't be had in an apartment. It's still a million times better than any solid state I've come across.

>>714951399
Not to mention it doesn't have any sort of drive knob, so distortion can't be had on lower volumes without a pedal.
>>
>>714951631
I use a Rivera Rockcrusher. I got one second hand for a steal and its great. Some attenuators add weird tones as you go lower whereas the rockcrusher just gets slightly less bright (which can be adjusted).

As for a Class 5 yeah its a beast. I had mine at a recorded 105db which is by no means quite. Having said that my Marshall JMP was recorded at 129db :P

>>
>>714951993
There aren't many Riveras around here and I've read that many attenuators indeed color the tone. Maybe I'll just build one myself.

I actually considered the Class 5, when I was searching for a new amp but it was a new model back then and there was the issue with rattling cabinet. The one I tested was pretty bad too and lower notes made the cabinet resonate even at very low volumes. They later fixed the problem but I had already bought the Laney. Not that I regret it. It's probably the best amp ever built for 600€ regardless of what music you play and it's even made in the UK. Now they're made in China, cost a lot more and don't even have a real spring reverb, so that's pretty sad.

Yeah, I used to have a Class 5 but it was the mk2 version which fixed that rattle issue. Also it had a half power mode so 2watt ish. I sold it for a JCM2000 dsl, but it was cool.

>>714952992
lul, cept my band -mostly my guitardist- is shit, so whenever we cover a song, i do the solo parts with a guitar distortion pedal and toned up highs, mids, and offed lows.

feels like i'm a heretic, but have you heard kid charlemagne without the solo?

literally nylon strings feel like dick. and why does the G string always sound like it's under water?
>>
>>714953208
I thought it was something like 0.1 watts?
>>
>>714954127
Not sure. It was still pretty loud on the half power mode.
>>
>>714953923
It isn't silver wound, so it's essentially a thicker B string. Without the winding, it makes the sound dampened and less resonant.

I absolutely love my '72 Reissue Tele.
I also have a hardon for the Schecter C1 series (tone is so versatile and smooth) but I don't gig these days so I can't justify buying another guitar.

My main amp is a Mesa Dual Rectifier and it is sweeeeeet

I have zero complaints with my head. I'm about to buy an sm57 for myself so I can start doing some home recording again. I used to have a sorta backpack studio set up but I went direct into an audio interface. Really looking forward to micing my actual amp.

Have had a few different ones, in the market for something decent right now.
Currently I'm just using a Vox VT40+. It's just a 40 Watt Tube Combo, but I can get some pretty good sounds from it.
