I learned to weld and used it to immigrate using Canada's express entry for skilled workers bit. Pretty cool deal. My brother is a basement dweller with no skills, and the only way to get him into the country is to sponsor him for an entire year, it's almost impossible without some kind of trade skill/job offer already in line.
