Those are morels, incredibly delicious. Lucky bastard. But just in case since im judging from a picture, look up morels and false morels (poisonous lookalike) just to be sure. False morels have a solid stem and are connected at the top of the cap where actual morels are hollow and the cap is completely connected to the stem. Im assuming you picked them low and thats why the bottom of the stem is partially solid

yeah, they are somewhat hard to find since they are black and hid themselves good but once you see them there is so much in same spot.

normally I find atleast 2-3 times more mushrooms than in picture in fall season. but it was last days of the season and could only find those. Russulas were good tho. Maybe the best ones in russula family.

These are morrel mushrooms. Fine to eat. Love them. Rinse and let them soak in water with salt over night. It draws out any tiny bugs that might be in the spores. Then batter them in 1/2 flour, 1/2 cornmeal mixture. Add salt and pepper to taste. Fry them in hot cooking oil...flipping every few minutes. You want them to be crispy. Enjoy! I'm jealous!
