Hey /b/ I found these growing in my backyard what are my chances of death if eaten
As a mycologist i would say that because the bulb is wider at the base than that of an actual morel i would say if you dont die your liver will be destroyed...or you will vomit your guts out...figuratively of course. Unless you bought it from a store like a baiting faggot, then the qrower should invest in more uniform to morel spores
I see the resemblance but I still wouldn't trust them
If that's a morel, you just hit a goddamn jackpot!
If that's a false morel (doesn't look like one, but I'm no foraging expert) they're still edible buy you need to parboil it like three times before you eat them or they're poisonous.
nope. we aint got no jews here in west BY GOD virginia.
Not bait, there's three more growing out there
Don't trust anybody on /b/
Listen, the way you test to see if something is poisonous is place it in your elbow, grind it up a little and make it a little wet, wait 30 minutes. If you get a rash, it's poisonous. If you don't get a rash, place a little bit between your lip and teeth, wait another 30 minutes. If still no irritation, inject a small amount and wait 4 hours
If you still don't trust it, find a certified mushroom hunter. Be really careful with any kinds of mushrooms
In some places they are. I have spent probably 40 hours looking for them this year and have found exactly zero. And they do grow in this area. It's not like I'm wandering around the deserts of Nevada or something.
They totally do grow in the backyard you cab see through the fence
Those are morels, incredibly delicious. Lucky bastard. But just in case since im judging from a picture, look up morels and false morels (poisonous lookalike) just to be sure. False morels have a solid stem and are connected at the top of the cap where actual morels are hollow and the cap is completely connected to the stem. Im assuming you picked them low and thats why the bottom of the stem is partially solid
dont give false info man. those are true morels and edible. plus very delicious.
the one in pics is fake morel. name in filename. these kills after high consumption
Op here. A couple years back my father found this one in the woods and we fried it up and ate it with thin steaks, good stuff
OP trust me im a wild mushroom hunter, you can see some mushrooms I collected in fall. Eat those.
it is from morchellacea family for sure.
only mushroom resembles to it is gyromitra esculenta, but those look like brain on head.
I wouldn't risk it with mushrooms since the deaths are usually incredibly painful and your corpse will be so embarrassing.
Imagine a blood/shart spray that leaked out your ass down your leg and your liver finally failed and your intestines burst.
Its just not a good experience for anyone.
It's a morel, look it up, only one mushroom family that looks like that and they are all edible and delicious. If you don't eat them you are a faggot for picking and wasting some if the most expensive wild mushrooms around.
wtf. didn't post for you to read. Just fucking look at the picture and read scientific name. There is also a fucking FORK icon with green. If you can't figure something that easy you are retarded
Yup, those are actual morels, not false morels. Morchella "caps" are attached to the stem, like yours. Gyromotria/Verpa caps are free like a bell. They are safe to eat and will actually improve in flavor if dried. *Amateur mycologist fag for 20 years
honestly OP, there are numerous species of inedible fungi that are identical to fungi that are unless you are a professional. Unless you have experience in this area there is no guarantee you aren't eating a false edible.
also people confirmed it is morel by giving scientific clues.
But still this is how you must think of every mushroom, if you are not %100 sure dont take the risk.
didn't know morels grow in US. Actually I don't know how many edible mushroom types there is in america since most of the mushrooms comes from eu especially mediterranean area.
They're extremely expensive Morel Mushrooms, I pick them all the time in Michigan.
Fry them up in butter with onions and put on top of a steak with a little blue cheese...
Better than any drug you can find
yeah, they are somewhat hard to find since they are black and hid themselves good but once you see them there is so much in same spot.
normally I find atleast 2-3 times more mushrooms than in picture in fall season. but it was last days of the season and could only find those. Russulas were good tho. Maybe the best ones in russula family.
Op here, I live in ontario. Decided not to eat tonight because I'm a few beers deep and apparently they're really bad with alcohol
I live in SoCal so mushrooms are scarce down here so I travel to see family in the Bay Area and hunt there. I've picked with Andrew Weil/David Aroura and had some epic hunts. Maybe I'll dig out some old photographs of my finds to post them
those are morels my friend, they're very good if you know how to cook them!
Morel dip shits.....fry in butter retards
I have many on my Nikon cam but kinda feel lazy at this time.
I don't know US very well but here in mediterranean we get pretty good stuff and I thought Cali had same climate as here and expected there to be good mushrooms
It's very dry here with temps/rain conditions that hardly favor mushrooms. In spite of that, I have a morel, spring amanita, chanterelle and White King Bolete Patch I can hunt each year.
Idk what the name of these mushrooms are but I know that you have to boil them for bout an hour, pour of the water, put in new water, rinse and repeat 4x they are really good tasting but are poisounous if not boiled enough
HAHAHAHA! Just stop!
These are morrel mushrooms. Fine to eat. Love them. Rinse and let them soak in water with salt over night. It draws out any tiny bugs that might be in the spores. Then batter them in 1/2 flour, 1/2 cornmeal mixture. Add salt and pepper to taste. Fry them in hot cooking oil...flipping every few minutes. You want them to be crispy. Enjoy! I'm jealous!
