Lets have us another late night space thread, /b/.
What do you think is out there? How deep do you think this rabbit hole we call a universe goes? Come share your beliefs about the universe right above our heads.
If you like this thread, please bump it. It'll die if it's just me dumping.

I think they've had this pattern for a while.

>Talk about mars
>Get $$
>Use $$ to do something more feasible like visit pluto

And realistically, we've got more to gain from a pluto flyby than putting someone on mars for a month, where they'll do nothing the rovers couldn't do.

They aren't colonising shit.

NASA likes to hype up minor shit (like the discovery of flowing water on Mars) so they can get more money. Can't say I blame them. NASA's funding is less than 1% of the US federal budget. The rest goes to blowing people up.

Sometimes I like to believe that when we die our souls are phased off to another planet to live our lives out there, A planet more technology advanced, meaning we would have transporters or be able to visit another planet in a blink with hyper-drived ships, or we'd be put in a planet that was much much less technologically advanced, back to caveman times. Which planet you were phased to would depend on your actions in this world we're in now, if you do something to advance this world, something important, you'd be sent off to the more technologically advanced world, to help further progress it. On the other hand if you fail to do any good in the world you're sent to the less advanced world, as a second chance of sorts, to do something there that would advance that world and move you on to the next tier planet.

This is how it is. How it was. How it came to be.
It began in the afterglow of the Big Bang, that brief age when stars still burned. Humans arose on Earth. Soon they were alone, and forever after.
Humans spread all over their world. They spread across the universe in waves. Sprawling and brawling and breeding and dying and evolving. There were wars. There was love. There was life and death.
There was immortality to be had, of a sort. A continuity of identity via copying and confluence across billions upon billions of years.
Everywhere humans found life. Crude replicators of carbon, or silicon, or metal, churning meaninglessly in the dark.
No where did they find mind, save what they brought with them or created. No other against which human advancement could be tested.
They came to understand that they would be forever alone.

Great rivers of mind flowed together, or sometimes shattered in shining droplets.
With time the stars died like candles, but humans fed on bloated gravitational fat and achieved power undreamt of in earlier ages.
It's hard to know what minds of that time were like, minds of times far downstream. They did not seek to acquire, not to learn, not even to breed. They needed nothing. They had nothing in common with their ancestors of the afterglow. Nothing but the will to survive, and even that would be denied them by time.
The universe aged, indifferent.
There was an age of war. An obliteration of trillion year memories, a bonfire of identity.
There was an age of suicide, as even the finest chose self destruction above further purposeless time and struggle.
The great rivers of mind guttered and dried. But still some persisted. Just a tributary. The stubborn, still unwilling to yield to the dark. Unwilling to accept the increasing confines of a universe growing inexorably old.
And finally, they realized: This was wrong. It shouldn't have been like this.
Burning the last of the universe's resources, the final downstreamers, lonely, dogged, all but insane, reached into the deepest past...

CRYONICS is freezing dead humans, on the off chance that they could be resurrected using future technology. There are already organizations that practice this.

is it possible to create a man made atmosphere on the moon?
>>
>>646799118
I believe so, since it's apparently possible on Mars.
>>
>>646793430
Not really. Some crazy equations equal out to there being around 10 possible planets per galaxy that can harbor life, harbor intelligent life, and let technology happen. For a better idea on this look at how our iron supply came to be. Almost all iron used to be in the core entirely inaccessible while the 0.001% left floated evenly among the rest of the crust and mantle. This would have long long ago settled back into the core if not for algae that happened to need iron to live. The algae took the dirty dead oxygenless earth and used the iron and water to make oxygen as a by product of their life cycle. The earth became oxygenated as a result but also warmed up and became too oxygenated for the algae to live. The iron rich algae died and fell like snow to cover that ancient ocean. That dead layer of iron rich algae is what we're currently mining today and is the only iron supply we have AND why we're even here breathing oxygen. Now each of those possible intelligent life harboring planets had to go through something INSANELY similar or have an even unlikelier thing happen to get the iron they need to make tech. No iron definitely means no chance at meaningful technology which means even if they did exist as intelligent beings we'd never find them or even know they existed unless for some reason we decided to land on some random planet and the chance of us landing on every planet ever on the almost 0 chance that theres life isn't feasible. Likewise if they've existed much longer than we have we'd also never find them through transmissions as they'd use highly compress data formats to get the most bang out of there buck for communication and even between here and the moon data at the level we can compress now sounds like undistinguishable static let alone super compressed stuff higher tech could pop out.
>>
>>646799335
They might not even use technology we could detect or discern from the background noise. Sadly to say unless they come to us which is insanely unlikely or we spot them which is also insanely unlikely we'll probably never even see anything anywhere other than us.
