My favorite thing about FF4 was it's villain, Golbez. He's basically the only bad guy in FF history that never lost, that was competent and kept his shit together and punked the heroes over and over again until he got pissed and turned sides in the end to help them take out the big bad

Golbez is what made that game, in my opinion. He was the closest FF ever got to Darth Vader

Emporer Mateus is my personal favorite villian / boss (final fantasy 2)

If we're talking about story bosses, my personal favorite was either Judge Gabranth, Kuja, or Golbez. Just because they all had good character development.

Outside of the story, I'd have to say Yiazmat. He's by no means the hardest boss I've fought, but fighting him in one sitting (I think it was about 3.5 hours the first time I did it) will always be one of my favorite video game memories.

So I KNOW that this isn't a popular opinion, but my favorite game was XII.

WAIT WAIT I have reasons though. Despite having very shallowly developed characters, the game's balance of story based and optional content was fucking sublime. You could coast through the game at a leisurely pace, doing an equal amount of story progression and dickfuckery, and the BAM! halfway through you're running into monsters that fuck you up for breakfast. The general scope of that game was just excellently delivered and downplayed, unlike XIII which was like "Look how emmersive this story is and I promise will give you a non-linear quest availability about 75% of the way through"

I agree. A lot of people say it's Penance, but Omega Mark XIII and other bosses in the game are harder because you actually have to run around and manage stuff.

If you're fighting Penance, or bosses in any other game, you have as much time between turns to plan your moves out as you need. It requires thought and skill, not watching a YouTube walkthrough.

i didn't even like role-playing games when i was a kid (apart from zelda but that was action too) but ff7 hit me. it just got more and more deep as i went along and the story was amazing! like a novel in a game that you can choose your way and play again for a new experience with different choices

Imo Legend of Dragoon is the most bland, middle of the road, oatmeal-flavored stereotype of an RPG ever created.

Radiant Historia. Best original JRPG on the DS.

It's turn/menu-based like FFX, with that same kind of turn preview system that FFX has. It does have some other gameplay elements as well, but anyone who enjoys traditional turn/menu JRPGs should play it. It's good all the way around. It's kind of like FFIV meets FFX meets Chrono Trigger meets Valkyrie Profile (no random encounters, but rather, enemies can be seen running around in the open, and you can either avoid them or engage them).

Then 9 because It has a great battle system/Armor/AP/Class system thinger. Also the story was banging. The character models are sick. The graphics are brilliant. Your mum swallows. The music is delicious too.

I'm stuck between FFIX and FFVII.. Both are amazing games with amazing OST's... I mean let's face it, One Winged Angel is an outstanding song, as is "The place I'll return to someday" from IX... Man, I really want to play both games now.

Golbez is the overall best, but to be fair, FF is terrible at bosses. Most of them are bland, nothing characters. Only a few are interesting or have plots/backstories with any sort of emotional impact, espcially when you take into account the surprise true villains that pop up at the end of almost every FF (Chaos, Zeromus, Necron, etc.)

Best: Golbez

Most underrated: Caius (XIII-2's story got FEELS as fuck towards the end when you start learning what life was like for Caius and Noel, and why Caius was doing what he was)

Most overrated: Kefka. People only say Kefka to be cool, and becase of the old VI vs. VII war. Kefka was an evil clown who poisoned a water supply and laughed a lot. Wow. Amazing. He was just a generic power hungry sociopath. That being said, in he grad scheme of things, he's still one of the better FF villains. Which is sad.

Gameplay wasn't deep. In fact it was shallow as fuck. The story wasn't the best. But the characters and the theme were awesome. "Identity" is a pretty deep thing to theme a game around, and they did an awesome job.

XIII was about "friendship" and was basically a high school anime with guns, and while X is great too I don't think it had the impression on me that IX did.

VII is basically FF: Ferngully.

Its plot is only slightly deeper than FF1.

But if you were 12 when you played it, it probably seemed super deep.

Then again, it's not like any of the other FF games are any better. FF plots just aren't good. Best of the bland? I guess that's an accomplishment of sorts.
