We stand alone. All those stars you see in the night sky are actually being sucked into an extremely large black hole on the other side of the galaxy. That's why they're so far away. They used to be a lot close but they got pulled to the other side of the universe. We're the last hospitable planet left. It just looks like there are stars in the sky because the light has yet to fade away.

>>
>>607699680
Or so you believe. I'm not saying they do, but the distance isn't insurmountable and there is nothing stopping them from being put in statis and awakening when they discover a planet with life.

Seriously.

Look at it this way, both Europa and Ganymede have liquid water on them. That's in our own fucking solar system. That's two fucking places which could have alien life, most likely not advanced civilizations, but complex creatures like fish and shit.

I also believe Ceres has liquid water on it. So that's 3.

But will NASA go exploring it? LOL FUCK NO! The EARLIEST we get to even starting a program will be 2035, I don't just mean NASA, I mean every Space Agency, unless India/China decide to do it. Then it'll take 10 years to get there, then maybe a year to drill down. That's assuming it stays working.

No, anon. God can only exist if he is a Deism God. Therefore, Evolution is real and that's how shit works.

It's all belief. I think you're probably right, but the only way we can know that there's life elsewhere is to actually find it.

I believe that the fact that we're here is enough to suggest that because it's happened it happens. But one point on a graph does not a science make. It's all belief at this point.

Also, FTL is probably possible.

You know what I find funny? That the USA government is funding a project to develop a "warp drive". Now, if you want to don your tinfoil hats, imagine we already HAVE the technology for a warp drive, but we can't just announce it, cause it'd shock people and people would ask questions. So, what do you do? You start funding a program to develop the drive and keep it going for a decade or two, then you go "Aha! We've done it! Woot!" and everybody claps and we can explore spess.

Physics, as we understand it, says nothing can go faster than light. But that's how we understand it, there isn't anything stopping something going faster than light. If you see what I mean.

I dunno, I just feel like finding alien life will make be feel less alone. Even if it's just microscopic, it'll prove that life is possible and that it is out there, somewhere.

It's why I resent NASA et al not going to Europa/Ceres/Ganymede.

but even the odds of that are slim. Our star is comparatively young. So odds are, there are plenty of planets in the Goldilocks zone around us that have been around for much longer than we have. So the odds of us being the most advanced guys in our local area are still fairly unlikely.

Which brings us back to the question of "What the fuck is up?" If we are the most advanced species in the area, the question becomes, "Why?"
>>
>>607702285
NASA work for a government directly, they'll never manage the big stuff. But there are others working on it.

Of course, you're theory on warp drive could be true, but that's what they'd also say if they had started funding a project to try to invent it. Occam's razor forces me toward the latter.

Also, physics doesn't say that nothing can go faster than light.

I subscribe to the idea that any advanced alien life coming to Earth would have the same scientific principles as humanity. That is, you don't just go in guns blazing, you observe for a time and not make your presence known. If you do, you do it to a small but important group. Just like explorers used to observe tribes people before approaching and then winning the trust of the chief/shaman/priest/witchdoctor before anything major happened.

But the major reason is this.

The universe is big. Even if you could travel faster than light, even 1% faster (which would shorten distances by a massive amount, let alone 50% faster or double) you could simply avoid any life.

Or, alien races have no interest in seeking other life, they're more interested in exploiting resources and stuff, so they just go about settling gas giants for fuel and planets for minerals/metals.

As I said above, they could simply be watching. The idea that an advanced race can get to Earth but not have some form of "cloaking" device, to avoid radar detection and shit like that, is silly.

It's depressing, I want to know.

Because we're around a, what, third, fourth generation star? It generated lots of the kind of heavy metals and stuff that's been useful for life as we know it here. Add to that the fact that it took over four billion years for us to evolve here.

There are a number of factors but, again, it's all guesswork based on the one time we know it happened.
>>
>>607702925
You don't seem to understand what distances we're talking about here. We barely have any clue what's out there. That's not really advanced in any way. We didn't knew that Jupiter and Saturn had that many moons until a probe got there and took some pictures. It took us 9 fucking years to get to Pluto. We are primitive in terms of space exploration.

We know distances involved and ages of stuff and the luminosities of stars in other galaxies, but until we see life that had its genesis on another world we have no idea of the variables involved.

I then layed down on the track and decided to stretch out my legs. I stared up the the sky, and far far far away I was something moving.

It couldn't have been a comet because it seemed to be controlled.

the Alcubierre drive doesn't make yo go faster than the speed of light in a vacuum. It warps space time around you so it moves with you, giving you a functional speed of faster than light, but not giving you the infinite mass if you did so conventionally. Like a boat that can go 30mph. put that boat on a tidal wave and all of a sudden its going over 30.

A) the universe is really really really fucking big and if radio waves have trouble traveling more than a few thousand miles, you can bet they will have trouble traveling several thousand if not million or even billion light years.

B) our star may be young, but the only reason the heavy metals that make up the world around us exist is because several generations of suns had to first form, grow old, and die. It took billions of years for all the shit you see on the periodic table to come about in abundance.

For aliums to come in contact with us, it is not enough to just be intelligent or capable of surviving, they need to be able to make use of complex technology

Disregarding your spelling, I believe I never mentioned their capability of making contact with us. But lets just say that that's the point I'm trying to make here. Give the Xeno a pair of opposable thumbs or something and it'll be good to go...

Also, the 'complex technology' you're referring to is based on us, built by us. Who says aliens cant design and create their own 'complex technology' that accomodates their physique?
>>
>>607711401
those are not the requirements for intelligence you fucking retard, what makes you think they need organs, what if their bodies consume energy in a different way like photosynthesis or some shit, look at monkeys..they have a similar body but they're dumb as fuck

>any more than 4 or 6 limbs would use too much brain power and not leave enough for complex problem solving

what? what if their brains are bigger and more capable of complex thinking than ours?

Everything needs organs, and it does not matter how smart a creature is if it has no way to apply said intelligence. You can't build a computer with flippers
>>
>>607713441

Jesus Christ man, think outside of the box for a fucking second. Also, I did propose the idea of giving a Xeno opposable thumbs, didn't I?

Friendly reminder: The Xenomorph serves as an example here.

As a matter of fact, given an intellect comparable to humans, I believe an octopus with finggers/thumbs would be quite able to build something, given enough time and resources.

How do you propose this creature would be able to discover metallurgy and electricity if it lives underwater?

labor to do what?

When you can meet the energy required to get here (e=mc2), this is meaningless.
>>
>>607714619
Dolphins and octopodes are just as smart as humans, they just can't do anything with that intelligence because they live in the water and don't have hands
>>
>>607715493
To make space iPhones for aliens of course
>>
>>607714380
I'd say the drone has sufficient amounts of resemblance, but the queen or rex doesn't...

Also, see >>607714619

Point still is, that on different planets, different rules may apply due to higher/lower gravity, stratosphere, chemicals, minerals, what not. Aliens could be living on those planets, whereas we could not. Those same aliens would have succesfully adapted to their respective habitats. Finally, different ways of 'being intelligent' may apply there. Take into consideration the fact that building skyscrapers wouldn't serve much purpose there.

>To make space iPhones for aliens of course

If you are able to harness enough energy to get a few tons of starship to accelerate to a respectable percentage of the speed of light, it's safe to say you have very sophisticated nanotech.

>being able to contain and harness antimatter
>>
>>607712372
>implying human labor would be valuable to a highly advanced civilization
we're getting to a point where human labor is barely valuable in our civilization
>>
>>607715991
Where do you think your shirts and phones and computers and tvs and cars etc came from?
>>
>>607715163
Why would it need that? Please note that I'm not saying the octopus will be able of interstellar flight. However, the intelligent octopus with hands would most definetly find ways to enhance it's own existance, very much like we're doing day in, day out.
>>
>>607716434
Please remind me of how utterly useful your phone, tv and car is when it comes to the greater good of the development of the species. There's tons of ways to do a better job than whatever your current devices and vehicles are. Reason you have those, and that we as humankind develop those instead of more useful ways? Mostly because you pay for it, because some fat asshole with a fancy position wants to stay there.
>>
>>607716434
>Where do you think your shirts and phones and computers and tvs and cars etc came from?

from cheap labor. that labor will be nulled in the next 100 years, if not by strong nanotech, then by other means.

the reason your thinking is old school is because it is not capitalism but mercantilism--going abroad for resources that flow back home. We're simply not there anymore.

>thinking globalized corporations are "american"

>thinking alien exploitation of human slave labor will flow resources back to zarcon

Indeed, even under today's model, the exploited labor in, say, China is making iphones because it provides them a better life than what they had.
>>
>>607717376
>it provides them a better life than what they had

cont.

If aliens came here and raised the standard of living and we made alien space-widgets that went back to their planet, we would be happy to do so if they significantly raised our standard of living.

We'd be like Mexicans happily working for minimum wage because it's 6x more than what they make doing backbreaking labor back home.
>>
>>607714069
yeah let me kill your argument before you waste more of my time... you are talking as if everything you know is facts but in reality humans are only still learning and everything we know that hasnt been proven is considered a theory, you havent showed me proof that creatures can evolve without organs because theres no knowledge about it, you have no idea if other places in the galaxy have different environments, beings have to adapt to certain environments in order to survive so what if in a far far place away from
us there are creatures that evolved to move objects without any use of their body parts, just with their mind? have you ever seen star wars bruh? what if other creatures out there are capable of controlling gravity, kinda like superheroes in movies

Our galaxy is 100,000 light years across, and there's 6 trillion miles in a single light year, not to mention that our galaxy is a blip on universes' radar, the Milky Way is insignificant on an astronomical scale, to assume that we are the only intelligent species in the entire universe is just plain ignorant, no offence.
>>
>>607715948
You misunderstand my original point. In order for an alien civ tho come into contact with earth, it must first be able to make simple tools, then complex tools, it must be able to make discoveries(if you live underwater, you have no way to discover basic tech like metallurgy and fire, which are necessary building blocks for making complex tools and eventually, spaceships) advance as a civ to the point where it is capable of space travel and then find us. It is easiest to do this if you are relatively humanoid.

Also, I have been using humanoid to describe a creature with 2 arms, 2 legs, a head, a torso, and hands, that walks upright(at least some of the time) and lives above ground. Xenos meet this.

Also, not to be nitpicky or anything, but technically xenomorph is a misnomer. All the word xenomorph means is any alien lifeform, in the movies the alien species is never given an actual name other than the alien.

>>
>>607718209
I'd very much like to support this idea.

We use our hands and feed to move objects, but don't plants influence movement aswell, even though they're not moving themselves?

They make certain scents, bugs pick up on it and act the way they want. So in a way, they move things, without actually moving themselves. Keeping that in mind, there might be other ways to influence certain things. Hell, who knows. Creatures might exist that use magnetic fields to function and manipulate thhe world around them. Possibilities are virtually unlimited.
>>
>>607702066
They don't want to visit earth, because they have probably seen how destructive and idiotic our species is. Basically the /b/tards of the galaxy is earth.
>>
>>607717165
>Implying an alien race advanced enough to enslave humans would not also have a complicated social structure complete with a retail industry.
>>
>>607718990
By your description, dinosaurs might also be humanoid, so that's a flaw, but I understand your point.

Also, you mention that 'It is easiest to advance to the point where it'd be capable of space travel'. Easiest, could be. Otherwise impossible? Probably not. It could also be that there's a way easier way to get there, that we haven't thought of. I mean dude, for centuries we believed the earth was flat. Go figure.

Regarding the misnomer thing, you know what 'lifeform' I've been referring to.

>>
>>607719496
Possible, but what is also possible is that there's a race that has a way better focus than ours. Just look at how much time we are actually 'wasting' on pleasures, rather than advancing.

Now take a look at bee or wasp colonies. Those fuckers are functioning at way higher percentages of efficiency than humans. Especially wasps are terribly good at terrorizing shit, however both species lack intelligence to actually make complex plans.
>>
I think one of the most lonely thoughts is that aliens do exist and that life is so common that were not significant enough for them to visit.
>>
>>607720557

>>607720076
I never meant to say non humanoid space fairing aliums is impossible, just that it is very unlikely.

I know what you were referring to, the xenomorph thing is just something that bugs me and if I can get one other person to stop perpetuating the misnomer my job is done. Small victories.
