I'm not very into screams either.
A little back story from me;
I was obsessed with Rush, Zeppelin, and The Who from ages 15-18, I played drums and guitar so I just spent every day learning every Rush song I could, I was completely obsessed and listened to pretty much only those three bands for years.
Then one day this dude I knew online was talking music with me and he told me to check out Seven Years by Saosin. I did, and told him it was "pussy emo screaming bullshit with no talent" etc.
Then I went through some shit with a chick that sucked, and that shit came on because it was still in my music library and I had it set on random. All of the sudden I got it, I understood it, it clicked. I went to him the next day and asked for some other stuff like it. He told me to check out Circa Survive, Emery, and Chiodos. I liked the first two much more than Chiodos, and I liked the Saosin songs I had found more than any of them. I listened more and more, got more and more into it, and then realized that the entire "pussy emo bullshit" thought was a complete joke. The music takes a while to understand, it takes a while to get it. Every single friend who I've shown this music to said it was garbage at first and then a few months later they always come to me asking for more of it. There's something about it, I think it's very different musically from most music, it's extremely complex and different, it takes a while for your brain to be able to map out where the song is going and to register all of the hooks and notes. Now all of those friends I've shown (even my dad) are completely obsessed with this type of music, just like I am, and it always starts with not liking it. It's honestly sort of life changing once you can start to enjoy the music because it really is -that- good, not all of it, but most of it.


Anyway, I'm not crazy about the screaming either. I think it works amazingly in some stuff, and I think it's really fucking lame in some stuff.

But I listen to music now my father did at my age, and my children will know it too. And I can tell you my grandfather didn't pass swing and jazz down to me.
