my gf teaches at an "inclusion school" where the sped kids (including kids with downs) are taught alongside "normal" kids in the same classroom, to help reduce the stigma of being retarded.

I work at a group home. Sadly the amount of money the taxpayers put toward these people are huge. Each receives about 60 grand a year to pay for their living expenses. That pays for food, shelter, people to take care of them, clothing, and any other expense that they occur. I do not personally feel it is a life for some of these people.
