OP is a pretentious faggot.
Zardoz is surprisingly good. The trailer makes it look like the corniest piece of trash, but damn. That movie is actually good.

Not exactly obscure.

I've seen it and it was a huge disappointment

Oh really? Why?
Another Eisenstein's favorite is Battleship Potemkin

no photo but a korean movie called vurses. good twist and comedy and gore.
I've never seen "Man bites Dog". Have I missed something?
downloaded this on demonoid because i was bored and had nothing to watch

>>570559895
Man, I was really disappointed by that movie. It was so corny and cheap and the action was so stupid. Maybe my expectations were too high.
>>570558598
That was the movie for the last episode of MST3K!
My vote is for The Abominable Doctor Phibes.
Hey, it's a British black comedy with Vincent Price.

Vincent Price again, and according to Wikipedia, has the first depicted use of LSD in a movie.
>>570560725
I mostly like it for it's visual design.

Your welcome Anon.
>>570563043 This anon has the right idea and I'm glad they brought up "Cache".
I think that /b/ would really like Michael Haneke.
You should start with:
1. The Piano Teacher
2. Time of the Wolf
3. Funny Games (german or US)
4. Cache
5. The White Ribbon
For a director thats trademarks include: short outbursts of violence and psychotic, violent youths... it should be right up all your alleys.
Be patient and sit through one and you'll likely be blown away.

I ended up taking a writing course in college and did it for our "film analysis" paper.
I probably still have all the photocopied academic essays about it that I stole ideas from.
Still one of my favorite movies. One of these days I'm gonna go to an anime con as one of the dudes... just twist up and crumple some tinfoil all over my body and shit.

>>570557679
David Lynch is a hack and this film is one of the best examples of it.
Next to no context clues, unnecessarily long-winded with a disappointing finale, it's incredibly pretentious with it's implied narrative and tasteless in it's way of exploiting the deformation imagery.
Lynch even had to explain certain parts of the film because he failed so spectacularly to give context throughout the film, it's an awful film by an awful director/writer.
The only project Lynch did well on was Twin Peaks and this is largely to the credit of Mark Frost keeping Lynch on a short leash with his imagery.
A sort of positive case can be made for Mulholland Drive too, but this post is long enough as it is.
If you want an experimental film that won't leave a bad taste in your mouth I suggest Koyaanisqatsi by Godfrey Reggio.
>>570563676

Just because something is in CC doesn't mean it's lesser known. They released also some Bay movies, The Silence of the Lambs, 12 Angry Men, etc.

Simple as that.
You have shit taste and deflecting criticism with regurgitated "you don't get it" arguments doesn't make the film any less incompetent.
Like I said, Lynch has made watchable stuff like Twin Peaks and Mulholland Drive, because clearly Lynch is better at suspense than he is at portrayal.

what a fucking pleb thread
This film was granted a screening permit after being presented to the Board of Censors as the dream of a madman. Opening at Studio 28 in Paris in October 1930, word spread about the film's bizarre content. On the evening of 3 December 1930, the fascist League of Patriots and other groups began (halfway through the film) to throw purple ink at the screen, then rushed out into the lobby of the theater, slashing paintings by Yves Tanguy, Salvador Dalí, Joan Miró, and Man Ray. The producers of the film, Le Vicomte de Noailles and Marie-Laure de Noailles, soon withdrew the film from circulation. The (legal) US premiere of subtitled prints of this film took place 1-15 November 1979 at the Roxie Cinema, San Francisco.

Yeah, read the books. As usual, books were much better than the movies. But not for the usual reasons. There is so much depth to the personality of Hannibal that the movies don't even scratch. They portray him as this vague and mysterious character, but the books flesh out his thoughts, his personality, the reasons that he does what he does. If anyone loves teh movies or series, the books replace nothing and add so much.
I had no idea dumblr had a Hannibal fandom. To each their own, I guess.
This is a masterpiece

Some..but it's kinda arty rather than hardcore
Terrence Malick anyone?
>>570577134
you are the first person i have interacted with in any way that have seen that movie before i mention it! :P
And it is so weird that I wonder why its not mentioned more often on /b/
>>570577241
too bad i would have loved to see his erect cock.
still, gonna DL.
One for the junkies out there, Heath Ledger and gf slowly descend into a shitstorm of too many heroins, anyone else even seen this?
The Day After.
One of the best post apoc movies. Follows the lives of a few different people before, during and after a nuclear strike on America.
No happy ending.
>>570577456
Not sure, it is odd enough. I really liked the ending.
GOAT Film here.

Where can I download these not so popular movies from? Are the torrent sites dedicated to rare movies? My Internet is shit thepiratebay seems to cater to hollyshit blockbusters. I don't find much trackers on torrentz.eu either.
Maybe a mega.co link too just any type that would support 'resume download' but a torrent site with enough seeders will be best.
>>570577529
Yeah I remember watching this, this fucking movie man, fucking gut retching.
A neat film about Columbine, follows different characters throughout the day, documentary style filming techniques so it really involves you and shocks you when the shooting starts
>>570576563
My apologies. I understand it's easier to identify with similar circumstance.
Kurosawa
Kubrick
Bergman
Hitchcock
are some of the best filmmakers you can pick and choose from there.
If you have hulu plus they have a lot of the Criterion collection on there.
M - Fritz Lang
The Lunchbox (Dabba)
>>570577134
Well I think it's hungarian. But atleast pretty sure not russian.
>>570577529
no you are the only person ever to watch that movie, pretentious fuck.
>>570560480
Jodorowskys new film The Dance of Reality was one of the best this year.
>>570577896
First watched it while withdrawing, just from kratom but the withdrawal scene was spot on. Scenes in the pool every time they shoot up were great too. Great mental breakdown as well
>>570578006
If anyone can watch Hitchcock and appreciate it's subtext and hidden imagery, then they are watching movies on a different level than most people. Learning to watch him teaches you how to watch movies and will make most modern explosion era shit unenjoyable.
>>570578016
I wasn't sure, I haven't seen it in a while. I was certain there was some important connection to the Soviets with that fat bastard.
>>570578006
We see eye-to-eye on everything, I'd add:
Yasjiro Ozu
Terrence Malick
Then more mainstream but still great
Darren Aronofsky
Coen Brothers
Paul Thomas Anderson
Watched this film 'Songs from the Second Floor' by Roy Andersson you might like, I'd call it a Scandanavian Art Comedy
My new favorite Xmas movie.

I'll bite. Lebanon and Waltz With Bashir. Both films feel like bookends for each other, both dealing with the 1982 Lebanon/Israeli conflict, which I had no prior knowledge about and still was throughly intrigued by how good they were, especially Waltz being an animated doc about the people involved in this war. Did feel uneasy at times watching war atrocities being depicted in animation, knowing that they actually happened.
>>570578092
Dude I'm not saying that at all, just that none of my friends who are into films had even heard of it, I wouldn't be proud to have seen something others haven't as i like talking about them
Eraserhead is the greatest film ever man. Period.

How comes hasn't any weaboo mentionned this one yet?
WHILE WE4RE TALKING MOVIES :
I'm looking for one that takes set in New York suburbs, is about cops (more or less dirty, more or less law abiding). It's pretty gloomy and darkish, with lots of night scenes under the rain. It's about brothers or some stuff. One is living in a shit house, that has mold and his missus is getting sick. It ends badly...
It isn't Story of the Five Burroughs, nor Brooklyn's Finest. But the title has, as far as my memory goes, something like neighbour, brooklyn or queen's related in it.
imdb helped shit
Any ideas freindz?
August Underground (2001)
The only reason this is known by anyone is because it got a bad rep from critics for being about serial killers.
Honestly a good watch and apart from some low-budget gore in places, kind of believable.
>>570578914
fuck yeah mine too, idk why but for some reason this movie and inception are on rotation all december in some channels in my country
>>570579095
Have you watched other David Lynch ones? Inland Empire is my favourite by far, one of the best arty but weird films
>>570578914
>favorite Xmas movie
do you like to be depressed beyond belief on christmas?
also i agree, fucking awesome movie. honestly it's almost flawlessly executed. made me fall in love with clive owen.

some of my fav modern directors.
I'm going to check out Songs from the Second Floor
>>570578004
see when i saw this movie i had no idea what it was about and no expectations going in. i though it was among th most boring movies i'd ever seen with an ending that comes out of nowhere. To me that first viewing experiance has colored this movie permenantly
>>570579738
Aronofsky did this film I hadn't heard of called Pi, black and white and experimental.
You can lose hope when you see the shit films that are in the cinemas, but there's still good films out there and they can really take your breath away
Special (2006 film)
About a guy who takes experimental meds and
thinks he has superpowers
Starts out funny.
Ends up with some seriously unfunny feels
>>570580421
I think it might be because the idea was that we all know the basic story so he made it about the less exciting bits and kinda teased us with the shooting. You probably didn't get all the tension building, must've just seemed like a boring high-school drama
>>570579095
Eraserhead is the movie Stanley Kubrick said he wished he'd made, his favorite film according to Lynch when they met.
I saw it at the midnight movies about six times at the Roxie in San Francisco when it was still in theaters. One time, a member of the audience said, "There will be a quiz after the movie," as the credits rolled at the end. LOL
The cinematography is beautiful, and can only really be appreciated in a theater. I am glad I got to see it there a few times.

Like most horror movies, the plot makes no sense if you really think about it. That said, it's one of the few recent horror movies that's creeped me out. Of course, the star of the movie is the Danvers Asylum.
>>570561512
I liked that a lot. Fun movie.
This. Tears and Laughs.
>>570581586
and Ocean Paradise. You'll never look at Jet Li the same again.
>>570579640
It's a story of hope amid hopelessness. I think that's why I like it.
Made me really appreciate the talents of the director Alfonso Cuarón; those incredibly long takes, immersive camera work makes you feel like you are there.
He directed "Gravity" most recently. Intense in 3D. Same feel.
>>570570025
Excellent. The ending really gets to you.
>>570557679
Bad boy bubby
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0106341/
>>570581826
It does has a hopeful but sad ending. It makes you wish it kept going while the credits rolled just so you can see what happens.
I always playfully imagined that giant ship being the Aperture Laboratories ship and the worse was yet to come.
>>570581826
oh i didn't know that. the takes in gravity were indeed intense, although the movie was complete crap otherwise. i'll check out his IMDB.
>>570577270
He can never top Days of Heaven. One of the most beautifully filmed movies.
Brian de Palma's Body Double
>>570582136
This shit was fucking incredible! Recommended for anyone and everyone. I laughed so fucking hard at this. I'm going to go watch it again, thank you anon.
JGL is god-tier in this film
>>570582386
Gregg Araki at his best-
Only surpassed by Nowehere.
>>570581826
i enjoy all cuaron films, gravity was great, idk why all the hate really....is just a fucking film faggots
>>570582176
"Gravity" needed a lesson in physics, so much wrong in that respect, but had me on the edge of my seat the whole time, nonetheless. In 3D, I got acrophobia from this one.
>>570560120
>>570559783
Mah Niggas.
I saw both of these in the theater.
Probably before most of you here were born :(
>>570582765
gravity was good. if they had paid attention to the deatials of physics and science it would have been so much better because you could think "wow, what if..." but once you see some of the early silliness, there is no more chance for what if, it's ruined and you're just watching to see what happens.
