Sapphire is Mohs hardness 9.
Fairly close to diamond.
You'll either need to get somewhat fitting lenses and goggles, modify the goggles or have the lenses custom made (although that's not too strange, I think, it is more expensive).

Normal glasses and plastics make for rather weak lenses. Easily scratched or broken.

These vests are like plate armor, they will handle general assault just fine.
Melee just has a big unknown variable in the power and skill of the attacker.
A given bullet goes the same speed no matter a little girl or a giant fired it from a given gun.
