I've been trying to remember the name is this fucking movies for the longest time.The first is about a robber, who I think gets in an accident, where everyone dies but a little girl, and he takes her, then he tries to rob some place...something along the lines of that, anyways the one thing that stuck with me all this time is that he had a partner that put chapstick in his asshole.
The other was an anime of some samurai, or ninja dude that kids his friends dad, and the only thing that stuck with me was that he used the blunt side of the blade when fighting his friend, because he didn't want to kill anymore or some shit.

Those films that you mentioned are very good as well, my only criticism of them would be that they are too maudlin. I love Princess Mononoke and Kiki's Delivery Service, they are absolutely fantastic films and some of my favorite animated ones. Ghibli's level of animation is unparalleled, period. I've realized that what they are trying to do is transfer realism, or qualities of real things, to animation as transparently, as possible, with an abstract foundation, truly talented work. This give's a liking for Miyamoto, from american fans of japanese animation, mainly because he is the driving force behind the companies success. He is more loved by Japanese people, I believe, for the fact that he has been making films for so long, mainly children's films, that present day adults are nostalgic for his work; it's like Disney still being alive today.

The main antagonist dies and the protagonist gets closure for the death of his friends and is able to live the rest of his life in peace instead of hidden away in a constant state of total paranoia.

Well the movie follows a non-linear storyline. It's told through the perspective of an older man's memories, and finally at the end in real time. The first 1.5 hours or so shows them as kids, the biggest chunk of the movie, between 2 and 2.5 hours is them as adults, and the last little bit is old De Niro wrapping things up. This could be a good way to split it up into three shorter sessions.

That's for the full original cut though, there's the European cut which is 229 minutes which is a good alternative, and then there's the heavily edited American cut which is 139 minutes. The American cut obviously shows all of the "important" bits but you do end up missing a huge amount of the movie.
