Dunno man, if the problem is lack of space to skate, streets are the best way to resolve it
You can feel uncomfortable at first, but when you create some routes for yourself, skating will become the way more interesting.
I skate to work, friends meetings, beach, almost anywhere, mostly using driveways. Kinda dangerous, need always to look back for cars and use lights at night time. Sidewalks are unusable here. If there are good sidewalks in your town, use them.
Backpack is better to carry shoes and some water, it's the way lighter than carrying skates somewhere. Skates can carry you anywhere. Almost. If you aren't in blading, wheels are too small, I guess.

sup guys.

been skating since late june and I think I've gotten better. I've been spending a lot of time at this roller rink that plays music. I have aggressive skates but I haven't used them on rails yet - i'll try it once it gets warmer.

I knew about the "anti-rocker" set-up, but I didn't know about the other set-ups like "HiLo."

I'm curious because I've been skating flat this entire time and I just fitted some new wheels to my skates - what's the benefit of this?

I'm reading that it changes handling characteristics (the "banana" rocker is too extreme for me). I still haven't learned how to do slides, and when it gets warmer, I'm going to start skating in the city (NYC). Should I rocker my skates? I've read that some set-ups handle uneven ground better.

I skate on powerblade frames, if that helps (pic related).

Basically, it gives more maneuverability and acceleration as oppose to a flat. Its good for hockey, but that about it. A normal flat rocker will give you more speed and go over rougher terrain better and is better for street stuff. Also, adding a HiLo wheel setup on a frame that was design for flat will probably be feel unnatural as hell, you really need to have a frame designed for HiLo for HiLo wheels to work.

So your setup (which is awesome btw) is perfectly fine for city skating, no need to change it. But is you still insist for a HiLo setup for UFS, the only real option are Salomon FSK Frames. There are blue and red ones for sale at ebay. They are pretty rare so don't expect them to be available for ever.

Street Invaders are too soft for slides.

Light cardio workouts help quite a bit. Try them.
I'm not sure about your situation or where you live, but you are just going to put in effort (and an open mind) to find a place. Or make your own box/rails and ramps if you live deep innawoods or something.

Learn to basic slalom. It's good if there's marking for training cones in some park.
Learn to monoline, criss-cross and onefoot, all forward and back. Then try some two-wheel monoline variations - toe-toe, hill-toe forward and back too.
Also switch leading foot during the training, try to exercise both feet equally.
They're all pretty easy tricks and you'll feel yourself more confident after learning them.
Also you can try X, grape vine and sidesurf.
They improve forward-back switching. Sidesurf requires good leg stretching though, be careful.

Just put some new wheels on my skates and they feel slippy as shit. This is weird as I went from 85a hardness down to 78a. The new wheels are quite cheap, but do they just need time to wear in?

Also got new bearings, I put some abec 1 in today and they seemed slow, changed it to abec 9 and they seem a bit better, but not as good as my old seba ones. Do they too need some time to wear in?
>>
>>1010314
>abec 1
Holy shit dude, that sounds terrible. Not even cheap complete skate setups come with those.

Regarding your wheels. Think they are just made cheaply, they may get better once broken in, but cheap urethane can only do so much, regardless of hardness ratings.

Need help with bearings.
Was about to get Twincam Titalium, then found information about Mindgame Titanium like they're more precise than ABEC bearings.
Guess they're out of stock cause there's no any actual listings in shops.
And now I've discovered Bones. Who used them? How is the durability? How often maintenance is required?
>>
>>1035470
Bones are good. But they are a bit inflated in price since they seem to be the go to bearings for people who don't know what what to buy.

I have a 16 set of Rollerbones (bought them dirt cheap for 19$, they are now like 25-27$sih now.) that replace my stock abec 5s that came with my skate. They are only marginally better but good for the price I payed. They are holding up well (I bought them in December last year).

I also bought some 16 set Rollerblade SG7s a few months before that for 27$ and they were really damn good. A noticeable difference than the latter.

I don't maintenance my bearings so i can't comment on that. I would only maintenance my bearings if they were expensive shit like ceramics, but for cheap shit i'll just buy a new set when the old ones get slow.

Was a die hard skater in my teens. I dug out my old K2's the other day and now I want to buy new ones. How about the Powerslide Phuzion Urban? What's a good one for getting back into it. Just skating through the city, no aggressiv stuff. At least for now.
>>
>>1045384
I would like to believe they are good, but I never skated them and there is very little information about them. Also I think they are discontinued but you still get them depending on where you live. If you are going with Powerslide, you may want to step up to the Khaan or Imperial skate for Hardboot style, or S4/Ultron FSK skate for Softboots. Also check out Powersilde's DOOP lineup of skates. With K2 they now have a very good UFS urban/aggressive skates (Midtown/Uptown), but don't bother with their older IL Capo urban skates since they were trash.

Seba and Rollerblade are also good options. Aggressive (boot only) skates with 72-80mm frames (Kizer, Ground Control, Bake) are good if are planning to go down that route.
>>
>>1045384
Seba FR1, dude. The most universal skates. You can do almost everything with them. You can get FR-A model, it also has better liners and removable soulplates, if you'll decide to try some agressive stuff. But regular model is still one of the best.

I didn't get difference between souls until realized you should jump from the one side.
>>
>>1055694
Not really. The description for it and yours is a bit off.

A Topside anything mean using your leg that is farthest parallel from the rail to lock in the trick.

e.g. If you approach a rail that is on your left and use you left soulplate (foot) to lock in and your right foot to grind the H-block, that would be a soul.
In the same situation, if you use you right soulplate to lock in and your left foot to grind the H-block, that would be a topsoul. And vice versa when approaching the rail to the right.

Applies to many other tricks as well.
>>
>>1059375
Ahh sorry, I actually bothered to look it up.

A better description would be "When the soul based trick is locked-in by putting the weight on the outer most wall of the frame instead of the soul plate such that the skater is grinding on his/her frame. The sliding frame should be as close to horizontal as possible".

Well, my description was pretty close. You probably get the idea.

Agreeing with you on all fronts, it's always seemed to me that skaters love using their boards as props while bladers are the ones out actually practicing. Idk who that guy in the webm is but his trick style is awfully wacky. Not very impressive.
>>
>>
>>1062819
Same guy that dissed first webm, this is admittedly better, but I think you're overlooking how consistent guys like Koston (whose style I think defined an era of street skating) or Berra are when they practice their lines. Video parts are usually guys trying shit, you see that in the lines posted here, too, but I think it's a testament to how much easier inline is that these guys stay up longer. Or maybe that the learning curve for skateboarding is way higher.

I was swayed a little bit, though, by this guy's technical shit, that line where he went over the first bench, over the planter, grinded, then tapped the first bench on the way out got a solid smile out of me.

Are you sure you are not looking into it too much? Apart from having wheels under our feet, you can't really compare inline and skateboarding, or anything else for that matter.
The approaches for each are very different, and the difficulty question is completely relative on who you ask. Don't believe anyone that tells you one is harder than the other.

And webms I post is just stuff I personally find interesting or cool. Obviously not everybody agrees, even among my bladeing peers, but I expected that.
Plus they are easy to make and no one else is doing it so why not.

Man we need JSRF ported too.

Any opinions on BIGs? Stuck deciding between them and bakes. Don't like the 2 piece design of bakes, and the BIGs have those proven aluminium spacers. Anyone ride either?
>>
How the fuck do you grind

I can barely jump let alone off something
>>
>>1062867
The two sports are simply not comparable. That's all there is to it. That being said, having skateboarded for 6-7 years before I started rollerblading, which I've done for the last twelve years, rollerblading is the more athletic of the two. I never built muscle, or really even used any, outside of my calves and ankles when skateboarding. Rollerblading has always worked my core, calves, quads and arms. Rollerbladers are athletes strictly by participation, skateboarders are not. I'm not sure where the perception that rollerblading is easier than skateboarding simply because we don't have to ollie, but that's possibly one of the dumbest things I've heard over the years. Anyone who actually believes that has never skated at a level past rolling around in a parking lot before.
>>
>>1066070
BIGS with 65-68mm wheels flat are amazing. The plastic is also a very fast and durable material. No wheel bite, fast grinds.

Bakes aren't for everybody, but they're a solid frame. They actually have a 60mm flat frame that will be coming out within the next few months.
>>
>>1067300
Cheers dude.
I want a powerblade setup because aside from couple of decent spots the streets here are shit. Think I'll go for BIGs, more colour choices too.

I'm a fatty and not really into aggressive style skating. Is there any place for a grown man to just cruse on skates?
>>
>>1072567
I man if you live in suburban areas just anywhere. If you're in a city get some urban skates and get into that
>>
Can a beginner learn basic rollerblading tricks and techniques (spinning, stopping, going backwards, etc.) on aggressive inline skates without any problems? I want to work my way up to grinds and jumps but I don't want to have to buy two different types of skates.
>>
>>1073224
For basic stuff you definitely can, provide that the ground you are rolling on is (for the most part) smooth for smaller wheels.
If you are going to learn on really bad concrete or tarmac, then you might want to get UFS frame that will hold wheels sizes of 72-80mm like >>969977
(Ground Control, Kizer, and Bake makes those type of frames).
>>
What options are there $150-$200 range that can run flat 72's but still grind? I'm entertaining the idea of USD Aeons but they're a bit over my price range and I'm iffy about the fused frames.

USD Sway 2 Powerblade and some leftover Xsjado Dustin Werbeski Skates are the only thing available at that price as a complete setup. Though some stores have there own compete setups, like Aggressivemall's "Hill Bomb" setup, which are Razor Cults with Kizer Level 3 frames. Some stores may have other similar packages but you are going to have to check yourself here >>952213.

Or boot only Xsjado 1.0 skeletons 3/Razor Cults/Leftover USD Realms/Anything from Ebay + Level 3/GC Bigs/Bakes + 8 wheels, 16 bearings
should come out to be about ~$250.

Or wait for Powerslide to release new Xsjados with a redesign Kizer level 3 frame (pic related), but who knows when those will come out.

There is also a weird blue color variant of the Sway Powerblade available at rollerwarehouse and other stores, if you are baller enough to cop that type of color that is haha.

That's why you just buy reds. They are actually good, cheap, and available offline.

Thinking about getting some hydrogen wheels. Any thoughts on them?
>>

Afaik hydrogen wheels are poured and come from the same U.S. based factory that Matter/Undercover uses.
So yea, they are top quality wheels.

Any cruisers here? I usually use my beat up K2's to get to and fro bus stops, but I'm curious if I should bother going up to 80mm
>>
>>1089186
76-80mm is pretty much standard for cruising and lots of other things. But really, you should only get the 80mm wheels if you feel like your current setup is giving you too trouble with speed and terrain and such. Otherwise, just keep using your current wheels until they wear out and save your money to buy some high quality wheels.
>>
>>1089199
Well the wheels are pretty much dead, that's why I'm asking. They've served me well for 2 years though
>>
>>1089205
Then buy all means go for it. Look into Seba, Rollererblade, Gryro, Undercover/Matter wheels that are 85a+ hardness.
You said you were to interested in new skates in the other thread yea? Considering you have been using the your current ones for 2 years that would not be a bad idea, but only if you have the money for new skates and want to step up to something more advance.
>>
>>1089232
It's not so much that I would mind getting new skates it's just that the K2s are actually superbly comfortable.
>>
I bet if people started wearing long baggy pants inline would be 'it' again
>>
>>1090114
skinny pants are cancer, even regular jeans look way better and more natural with skates

I feel your pain, US 13/UK12/EU 47 here.
I'm gonna be picking up pic related soon to carry my skates around, beats throwing them in a huge, flimsy gearbag like I do now.
If you live in the US, the Aggressivemall MTN-DVSN rucksack/backpack may be a more sound investment. No matter where you try buy them here though it works out to over 100 euro, so the USD bag is what I'm going for. 65 shipped from be-mag shop.

Total beginner here. Don't even have skates, but might get some.

To what extent will skating require me to be in good shape? Will it help me stay in good shape?

How much money is getting into it going to cost me, if I don't just throw money around thoughtlessly but also want a pair that will last me?

Is it good as a mode of transportation? How does the feel of skates that you attach to your shoe compare to that of skates you just put on (thinking about whether it'd be worth getting skate-shoes to wear on campus since I'd be going in and out of the buildings fairly often).
>>
>>1100333
Skating is very intensive. Your legs will muscle up and your cardio will improve pretty quickly, but remember they wear you out. Money aspect all depends. I bought my K2 Exos for $90 on sale and they are a relatively decent skate. There's an extreme high end and an extreme low end. As for transport it's pretty good. You can move about 2-3x as fast as your walking speed and I used to use mine on campus all the time. I wouldn't bother with skate shoes. Proper skates provide ankle and foot support that your standard shoe isn't going to have and then you'll have fucked your feet.

It hasn't been released yet so not much, other that its high end skate that is purposely made for city/urban skating. There is a lower cost (~$50-$70 less) variant called the Metroblade C that has less expensive frame and wheels and has SG9 bearings instead of Twincam ILQ 9 Classic Plus bearings that come in the GM, but has the same carbon boot. According to some stores, its supposed to be in stock by mid to late April.

Do you guys wear skate socks or just regular ones?
>>
>>1109573
I don't buy purpose made skate socks, but I do have dickies work socks that I use only for skating. Not sure about others, but I'm sure some do, just like basketball and soccer players use Nike socks for no good reason.
>>
>>1109573
I just wear my low cuts when i'm going from shoe to skate. If it was more intense session I might go get the wool socks.
>>
>>

Planning to get a pair of SLs.
Is there any difference betweel SL1 and SL2?
>>
>>1119411
SL2s have wheel wells on the outside under the souls that can accommodate bigger wheels (up to 66mm wheels on FLT3 frames and even bigger on other frames) and some other small improvements.

Also, some pro models have different cuffs and liners. Make sure to look into that.

Okay. Now THAT was fucking cool! Wallride over the trashcan/fountain to fakie 720 the stairs?! The bench grind hopping over the bench in the middle?!? Holy fuck, awesome clip

The wallride down the stairset with the 180 out reminded me of doing wallride 180 outs in Jet Grind Radio :P

>Find a stance that feels comfortable when stood still (I find Mizou's really natural).
>Find a low curb.
>Step onto the curb in the correct stance foot-by-foot - make sure you lock your plates in and find your balance. Repeat until comfortable.
>Roll VERY SLOWLY up to the curb, and jump into the grind stance. Lock your plates properly. Jump back out and rool away. Repeat this until comfortable.
>Wax the curb up. Run your grind plate over the curb, ensure it slides nicely. Roll slowly up to the curb, jump into the grind as before. This time you should slide a little. Jump back out and roll away.
>Repeat this faster and faster, until you get a decent slide, and are locking into the grind every time.

Be prepared to hurt yourself, as you'll fall repeatedly even on a curb a couple of inches high.

Thank you.
It's actually going to be my first aggressive skates so I'm kinda confused.
The choice is the way bigger than choice of freeskate models. The only criteria for me is the full-plastic boot.

Started with digging of Razors, because they seem pretty good with these replaceable details. Genesys 9.1 seem not bad too exept weight I guess.
Besides looked for USD VII and Sway 2.
What models are better from these?
I know they all can be pretty good, but the nearest shop is pretty far from me, so I only search some information about them for a while, because planning to skate on it for a long time.
Also, any other good solid boot models?
>>
>>1121755
USD VII fit wider feet and have more flex and have lower cuffs, and the soul plate is pretty good (better than carbon soul plates).

Sway 2 fit narrower, much more stiffer, and have a higher cuff (Also their sizing is kinda fucked, people reported that they fit larger that normal shoe sizes, so may need to downsize them). Souls look alright, but i haven't heard anything specific about them.

I prefer highcuff/stiffer skates, but to each their own.

Also look into Rollerblade Solos/NewJacks 5, as I've heard nothing but great things about them.
Valo is also a solid choice and lots of really good skaters swear by them. (Personally, i would go with these 2 over USD)
