I want to longboard, i enjoy so much the idea of chilling out in a ride while listening to your favorite music. I don't care that much about tricks (I already do and have an bmx for this purpose).

However most of the longboards i can afford (i want something cost x benefit) support up to 70kg, and i have 75kg.

So i was thinking about going to skate, but here's my question: Does the skates have this weight problem too? Is it dumb to get in a department store and buy the first skate i see?

There's no skate store where i live, there are few places that sell "professional skates"

I started putting some griptape close to where the wheel hits the wood and that helps a lot: with a firmer grab it's also much easier to glue your backfoot to the board I think. also my hands are usually greasy.

Thanks for the advice. I'm typically a recluse anyway so this kind of thing is equivalent to doing interpretive dance or something. And I'm not afraid of strangers, I'm afraid of their smartphones. 2015/16 is terrifying for anyone who prefers to keep to themselves. I wouldn't object to skating alone at a park once I get gud but until then it's abandoned lots for me.

Let's say I used to skate a lot but was never good at tricks. Just liked to do Ollie and ride around and do some ground tricks like that one skater who was sponsored by the panda company. He did like handstands on his board a lot.

Anyways I'm 22 now and I kind of feel awkward wanting to get back into it but I'm falling out of video games and already play an instrument. Is skateboarding a thing I can really come back to? And if so what would you recommend me having to buy to start back again without any equipment or shoes or anything.

personally I think skateboards are a shit option for transportation. Even with a big wheeled cruiser you're still going to be doing a lot more work than if you were cycling. Not to mention the fact that you are severely limited in the terrain you can traverse. Get a skateboard for skating and anything else for transport.

Btw, is anyone /fit/ on here? Earlier today, whenever i go for an Ollie my body gets stiff in the middle of the jump. In result, I end up doing rocket ollies. Are there any stretch exercises that can prevent this from happening, or should I just take a break from skating for a couple days?

Learn them backside. A good way to get used to the feel is by doing a manual then shifting your foot behind while on the tail so you do a little power slide. As for a slappy... It's just that but go from toe to heel so you get on the curb

So I figured out the problem why my kick in my kickflip was making me do a shuv it. When I was flicking, I wasn't raising that back leg. Any pro tips for raising the back leg when I flick? I can't seem to get it.

try to get used to jumping over obstacles and into banks, even if separately at first. when diving into a bank, make sure you raise your ollie like there was an obstacle but then level your board with the bank. both should force you to level your board and raise your back leg when ollieing.

I would also suggest you'd move around in a much more lively fashion, like a high speed cruise, when you skate, while also jumping over obstacles, even if small ones, every now and then. I've noticed most people try to do fliptricks while skating tiny boards with hard trucks at -2 mph with the heels of their back foot on their tails and surf-like front foot (tldr, not skating well at all). If you can skate at a certain speed and ollie over stuff fluently, and also do 180s with ease, tech-ier tricks will come easier later on.

please do allow me to use gillette as an example. not my favorite, but illustrative, I guess.

yeah, you'll ruin your board with all that moisture. skating 2-3 hours a day, a deck would last me two months tops before i get really bad pressure cracks. the deck gets so soggy, the edges and the tail fall apart. i've had boards snap on me a couple of times and i got hurt.

but that's no big deal really. the worst part about winter skating is keeping your bearings rolling.

i just ordered a new deck and some bearings, using a set of unused powell wheels that i had lying in a box somewhere. my rusty old grind king trucks should be alright, now all i have to do is grab some grip tape and i'll be golden. or something like that. my legs are gonna be wobbly as shit.
