I'm pretty sure it was legit, but they had a gentleman's agreement to keep striking to a minimum and to put on a show for the crowd. They were still trying to beat each other, but they wanted to do it in an exciting way.

Great match either way, and a great introduction to PRIDE for pro-wrestling fans who don't like MMA for whatever reason.
