WWE and the mainstream perception of it is the reason it is embarrassing to be seen as a wrestling fan by society.
As the industry leader, they do nothing to improve or enhance the image of pro wrestling to getting it back to the level of mainstream acceptance it once was.

My close friends know I'm a wrestling fan. I don't talk about it very much, except for when I want to try moves, chop-battle someone, or play some SmackDown vs. Raw.

I pretend to be hardcore to the 2 friends of mine who still care about it. Truth is I haven't watched a full episode of raw in years. Only my grandmother still cares about this in my entire circle of family and friends. /Asp/ has lots of fun bantz though

It's not something I advertise but will talk about it if the subject comes up.

Big issue is that people expect you to defend the current WWE product and I really dislike what they're peddling.

I own a few shirts, but with the style of NJPW and a few WWE shirts, people always assume they're band shirts or some random graphic tee. So it's whatever.

I will also never buy a replica belt or any of the toys though. I am 26 and still feel like I got some level of self respect.

I live in China and it's just started to become popular here so no real stigma. People don't really know any of the older guys though, I have an Eddie shirt and an Apollo shirt and no one really recognises the Eddie shirt but a few Chinese people know the Crews shirt.

i used to but the stigma has really, really receded in recent years as more of the ridiculousness of wrestling has bled into mainstream consciousness. If i'm talking to kids and they don't like it I won't bring it up cause they don't understand but I'm capable of explaining the appeal to other adults pretty easily
