It was still unnecessary. Have her never be able to pull off that move and then have Asuka move to the main roster.

It didn't really do much for Asuka to kick out, she already was a 500 days undefeated champion. So if she kicks out of the finisher or never suffers it, doesn't make much of a difference.

On the other hand now there is a precedence for kicking out of it. Sure, for now it was only Asuka...and next it will be Kairi and then whoever. So how about protecting that finisher and actually make a story around it?

As I said - the matches were intended as a trilogy. First Asuka wins, without getting hit by Eclipse, but needs to cheat to win.
Second match Ember hits Eclipse, but Asuka kicks out in a nick of time. Ember can't hit the second one, cause Asuka covers behind the ref.
Third match would be Ember not using Eclipse twice when she can. Killing Asuka with everything she has BESIDES the Eclipse. Hitting it once, going for it again and hitting it and winning.
The story being - young Ember was too sure of herself, her devastating finisher would be enough to kill Asuka at their first match. Asuka cheats. Ember loosing in Battle Royal, cause Asuka interferes. Ember getting injured because of her interference. Ember is still sure she can defeat Asuka if she hits the finisher. But during their match, she hits it, but it is still not enough to stop Asuka. You can see Ember's face after Asuka kicked out. That was the best part of the match, she completely sold her world coming apart. Something she believed in the deepest parts of her soul would be true wasn't meant to be. It was a lie. Everything was a lie. It is not enough, not enough, I can't... I can't. That was the emotions Ember ran through inside 4 seconds. Awesome stuff.
Anyway, back to story. Ember has to go to the back of the line. In the meantime Asuka has to be heel to defeat Kairi or someone new during Survivor Series Takeover. And now you can have Ember either win during RR Takeover or prolong Asuka's reign until WM, so you have literal year between the first and third match.
In that match, you will have Ember either using Eclipse really soon in the matcj, but not going for the cover, rather picking Asuka up and kicking her again and again. Ember getting out of Asuka Lock and also hitting Eclipse in the end. Or you can have her climbing up onto the ropes, just to have her only jump down and not use Eclipse. And in the end, of course she hits it and pins Asuka.
