He just says it. Again Dave never proves it. Dave sometimes reported how much merch was sold at live events but it was few and far between. Dave does not have the numbers officially much less bootleg. The best chance we have of getting WCW merch numbers is if a guy called Chris Harrington (the guy who got WCW contract numbers from Sonny Onoo's WCW racial lawsuit) finds the documents (and that's if they exist) because Meltzer sure as fuck will not be spending time looking for those documents.

Dave has zero clue how much nWo merchandise was sold worldwide (it was HUGE in Japan also) hence why he's never reported the numbers in his newsletter to this day. nWo merch still sell to this day.

According to the suit, Nash created routines, themes & a distinctive persona for his character. He was one of the two characters known as "The Outsiders," one of the three founding members of the "New World Order" or nWo, & the leader of "The Wolfpac". The suit accused WCW of refusing to pay royalties, underpaying them, delaying payment for years, & REFUSING TO FURNISH RECORDS that would allow wrestlers to determine what percentages they were owed. Nash was one of select few WCW wrestlers who went after his WCW merchandise money; he spent $100,000 in legal fees and won the lawsuit but also has gag order so he can't speak about it.

Clinging to the past through nostalgia this hard, to the frightening extent he does, is usually a sign that somebody's adult life/current time period they are living is not going well for them, so they try to revert, and go back to the past (mentally at least) to a time when they were happiest and surround themselves with the things and influences they had in that time. It's why the nostalgia industry exists.
He lives in the past in that timeframe because it's probably when he was happiest in life. He's just trying to get that feeling back.
