No one "luckily" kills all their competition and builds a monopoly out of a sport that was never mainstream to begin with. At the same time though he has lost it and has lost it for years now.

A mixture of both. He's genuinely good at classic used-car-salesman predatory business tactics on a larger scale, and mediocre at booking. He had one cheap booking trick of making an unbeatable ubermench face out of the biggest dood work two times in a row to the point that their popularity spilled over into mainstream culture

It depends on your own definition of genius. You don't really need to be a genius to be a millionaire, ask all those inventors and artists who died on poverty. You need to be smart, amoral and the most important thing, to be in the right place at the right time. Vince had the hindsight to see the future was a national wrestling league and the potential of cable television while his own father and the rest of the promoters were still stuck on the old ways. If Vince didn't take the chance, someone else would eventually do it. The big irony here is that Vinny Mac became a millionaire by rebelling against his father but now he has became his own father, a stubborn old man stuck on the old ways

Never said I liked Cena, just that he crossed over into the mainstream zeitgeist and made oodles of money for Vinny. Vinny's buisness model has always been "keep throwing different 'the guys' against the camera until one sticks, and then when one finally crosses over into the mainstream, capitalize on that." In all fairness, when he does this, he makes up his losses from all the failed "the guys." It's just that, right now, he doesn't have a successful "the guy" crossover, unless you still count 40-something year old Cena, and instead of throwing varried "the guys" and seeing what sticks, he's been pushing one "the guy" suuuuuuper hard without any variety. In his older age, he's getting more stubborn: he gave up on "The Luger Express"and "Diesel" much quicker than the amount of time he's insisted on pushing Reigns.

In a vacuum, as long as you keep trying new "the guys" when one fails to cross over, it's not actually all that bad of a business strategy: sort of like how the one successful business a venture capitalist invests in makes up for the losses on all their failed ventures. The thing is, in this metaphor, he just poured everything into ONE venture (Reigns), and that one venture is not blowing up.

Definitely an evil genius. As stated above, by some extremely well written posts might I add, Vince had the gall and the plan to take his fathers company and make into something it never would have been otherwise. He's slipping now but no one can ever take away what he did. It is worth mentioning, however that there was quite a few lucky breaks along the way. At any point it all could have come crashing down much faster than we're seeing now.
