It's all just part of working the audience. If you put in work into stuff like your hair, your outfit, your mask, your ring gear, your entrance, your chants, etc. etc., all of this stuff will get you over with the crowd from the second you step into the ring. The more over you are from the outset, the less you have to do to get the audience.

This is clearly a huge part of NXT's core philosophy. Shinsuke Nakamura, Bobby Roode, Aleister Black, Finn Balor, these guys all have crazy entrances that get you excited before they've done a single move and that's why Takeovers usually kick the entrances up even further than that and get shit like grand pianos and professional violinists.

It does amaze me the amount of wrestlers who don't bother doing anything interesting with their attire.

Unless you look like Brock Lesnar or Big Show, you should 99.9999% have gimmick outfits, and not just wear random wrestling trunks that make you look like a CAW, or just your shitty merch t-shirt (looking at you Kevin Owens). Think about wearing a suit if you're a top guy doing a promo that isn't some pre/post-match or after you've been in a beatdown.
