was it from not ignoring your instincts?
like putting your arm up when you should have taken it full in the face?

Well partially yes, my gut told me not to do the move, I wasn't ready because I didn't have the agility for it.
Looking back on it, the main thing was I hadn't been instructed properly. My hand was supposed to be posted on the guy's hip for the duration of the move but I was never told that, just "do it like you do a front bump."
How I'd learned to do a front bump was to put my hands above my head and throw into it to get good rotation when I was up. So I started with my hand on the guy's hip, pushed off, then when I'd started to go over his shoulder, I tried to put my hands above my head to throw into it.
My hand caught the mat, body twisted around and CRUNCH landed right on my arm and it was twisted underneath me about an inch above the elbow.
This was all done trying to clear a guy a foot taller than me too...so you've got a guy who can't jump for shit trying to do a front flip over a behemoth of a man at full height...I knew something was gonna go wrong so yeah I shoulder some responsibility for being stupid just so I wouldn't look like a pussy in front of the guys.
