Some promoters like Watts looked at legit athletes as tough guys. Vince looked at roided up guys that way. It is easier to sell guys if they look legit.

Gimmicks work. That's why the Honky Tonk man is 60+ years old and still gets bookings every week after 30 years. They are easy to understand and easy to sell. I will promise that a Jake the Snake or Brutus Beefcake will resonate with the average person a lot easier than Davey Richards will.
