They were at once the top promotion in the 80s/90s, but in the mid 2000s they fell apart, sorta like NOAH did, not as bad as NOAH, but there was a lot of issue in the promotion that brought them down.

Thought 2015/2016/2017 has been AJPW's best years since around 2005.
They've gone up in business about 3,000 more people at their events compared to last year.

2. The modern AJPW style is definitely similar to modern NJPW style. Old AJPW used to be head drops galore.

honestly, if you're not on the bandwagon and only watch "NJPW" cause everyone else does, and just like good solid wrestling, I definitely recommend trying to follow some AJPW, catch some Kento Miyahara matches on youtube, and look more into them. AJPW and Dragon Gate(Japans 2nd top promotion) and DDT(Japans 3rd top promotion) are a ton of fun to watch. Dragon Gate being the most exciting and fun.

Shiozaki was a better All Japan ace, speaking purely in terms of workrate. Kento still has a ways to go as a wrestler; he's not even close to Okada.
