Yep, right place, right time, right conditions. It's like giving a glass of filthy stagnant creek water to someone literally dying of thirst in the desert. That's what that promo was, and that's what Punk's subsequent run was (aside from the MitB match), to the average die-hard WWE fan desperate for something, anything that reminded them of wrestling's best era, and anybody who would give us a break from Cena.

Phil was okay and the pipebomb served its purpose, but it's his fans that make everything he did insufferable. Without them, Punk wouldn't have as much hatred. His fanbase is the single biggest group of losers in the history of this great sport.

One of the best promos ever. It manages to "break" the fourth wall in the best way possible. The kind of storytelling that only a medium like the WWE can do. In a way it is reminiscent of Austin's storyline, too (starts with a promo that breaks the fourth wall, a heel character that eventually gets the fans' love, and a storyline that references real events like Screwjob/Brass ring grabbing). Unlike Austin's stuff though, this went a step further and uses Punk's heel status to really blur the lines well (which is something The Miz has been doing since that Talking Smack segment.)

On its own it was fine. But it broke up the monotony and led to one of the best storylines WWE's put on in the last decade, so I can't fault it too much.
