Problem was they wanted him to so a program with Taker and then Eddie when he obviously wasn't ready.

Actually it was Taker who wanted to help put over Fertig. They were actually good friends and the plan originally was for Taker to loose at WM after Mordecai "claimed his soul." Taker was going to take time off after WM for some surgery so he thought a win at WM for Fertig would be a great. "The Streak" wasn't that big of a deal back then to Vince or Taker for that matter. Taker was also the one who convinced Vince to rehire Fertig when the WWE started their ECW program.

Most people claim it was his ring work which did him in but that's actually false. The Mordecai character was pulled from TV cause Fertig got into a bar fight and Vince was served with several lawsuits.

That was cause with the stupidest idea wwe has ever had "the brand split," wwe purposely broke up actual good teams and put them on separate brands. Only to team each member up with someone random instead of pushing them to be a singles competitor. Like dvon. Put him on smackdown and team him up with Batista. Then when Batista leaves, put him with Ron Simmons and then back to raw. Like wtf?

Breaking up la resistance, a great heel team only to have Renee Dupree get buried by John Cena and never amount to anything as a single competitor. Then put back into a team with kenzo Suzuki, to still fail. Then moved back to raw to reform la resistance and fail, even though they were a goat heel team before they broke up. WWE is great.
