If you can trust those opinions (which I'm assuming Meltzer is basing his statement on) then yeah, Roman's a good worker.

He's improved a lot since he arrived, as he should have done, he's decent at selling now (maybe working against a monster heel helped him because he has to sell like 90% of the match?), and his matches don't seem quite so robotic spot -pause-spot-pause-spot etc.

It might be an unpopular opinion on the internet but I think Roman is more entertaining that Dean Ambrose in the ring, maybe on par with or better than Seth right now.

Seth's had some really shit feuds in the past year holy shit.

Nothing Roman has done comes to the Ambrose v Rollins or Rollins v Cena v Lesnar or Ambrose vs HHH level. All three of the Shield are severely limited, yet Roman still has the weakest match with HHH of the three. Heel Seth and Ambrose when he's given some freedom (post wwewhc win promo, vs cena/styles promos) are nowhere near as embarrassing as Reigns who couldn't even handle Brock/Joe.

Oh, boy. Brock vs Roman was anything but boring. Stylistically it's one of the most brutal matches WWE has had in recent memory. Two big guys taking it to each other with stiff shots. Roman was still feeling the effects of this match a month later Brock vs Roman had the story of chinks in Brock's armor building up until he got busted open and Roman's perseverance. Simply saying Brock just did suplexes, F5s, or Roman did consecutive superman punches or spears completely miss the context of the match and reveals that you value a "variance of moves" regardless.

It was a violent and hard hitting match from the gate. Both Brock and Roman brought in that department. Clear and meaningful shifts in momentum. The explosive opening minute with Brock getting cut and seething over it. Brock treating Roman like a joke and just F5ing him from the rip to end it. Roman capitalizing on that. Brock progressively getting more serious until he's absolutely pissed this guy won't go down and is seemingly enjoying the ass kicking he's getting (and he gets his ass kicked and sells it well - when Roman tried to sit up after getting slammed once and just fell back down was good). Roman progressively tiring Brock out. Brock's selling and his work in the ring during this match was top notch throughout, especially his facial expressions and mannerisms during the beat down. The knees and Roman getting floored outside the ring. 2 Superman punches out of desperation to capitalize on Brock being busted opened, Brock's visually impressive counter attempt, but Roman goes for that wound on his face and hits him again with it. It's the best main event in WM history and I wish it had a legit finish that didn't involve some scrub like Rollins.

It's a much better match than he had with Kurt. There was something far more visceral about it while Kurt vs Brock felt flat despite being technically good and featured a more subdued Angle than usual, which is always a positive. It told a better story, better action, had more heat, and so on. Finisher spam and false finishes WWE style is something like the Rollins/Cena portion of the RR Triple Threat, which was terrible and brought down the match.

No, I prefer an actual progression in storytelling. The only form of storytelling that happened with this match was with the same moves being used, and then kicking out of pins. Nothing else. It's as uncreative as it gets in the realm of storytelling.

The rest that you are talking about is "babyface beats monster heel wrestling match 101" literally the most unoriginal and boring garbage out there. In fact, due to finisher spam, this match was even worse than a typical garbage match like that.

There's no extra caveat in depth here like the references to their past relationships in Ambrose v Rollins, Rollins growing as a character in the triple threat in true underdog fashion rather than just getting spammed with the same moves/pins, or Ambrose almost beating HHH.

This isn't to even get into how awful the selling was in that WM31 match, too. In an attempt to try to make Roman look too powerful, storytelling devices with power only got weakened.

Sorry, but your favorite Roman sucks. Even when he's heeling it up like on Monday, he's just a lame third wheel.

Brock Lesnar vs. Roman Reigns at WrestleMania 31 was everything I've been searching for since Scott Steiner vs. Bill Goldberg - the amateur wrestler vs. pro footballer. Two alpha male badasses, two legitimate HEAVYWEIGHTS, two legitimate athletes, two prize fighters...colliding in a believable, super stiff, slobberknocker with a BIG fight feel & making me suspend my disbelief in the process. Reigns selling was beautifully sympathetic, his hard hitting hope spots were exquisitely violent & the colour (blood) added to the drama of the match. Roman fought from underneath which everybody should do when facing Brock. Without question, The Beast Incarnate vs. The Big Dog was 2015's match of the year. I can't wait for Lesnar vs. Reigns II & the cosmetically pleasing poster that will go along with it.

Seth Rollins involvement ruined the match.

He's had very good matches with Joe, Wyatt, Strowman, Owens, Balor, Seth and Rusev at this point, across PPV and TV. At this point if he's in a TV match, you can pretty much rely on it being a very good TV match.

I'm not gonna disagree that his best matches (Styles, Owens) had a lot of smoke and mirrors but for the past year he's held his own. He might not be carrying anybody to a great match, but he's better than mediocre.
