It was a good way to bury the reputation of Savage. It only really started rolling after he died, which is the best sign it's a lie.

Also, you listen to anyone being asked about it, and the wrestlers never repeat the allegations, but get the interviewer to explain the alleged story. The wrestler then typically says "well, that's what I heard too". Huge red flag.

I think he saw Savage leaving AND taking sponsors with him as an active attempt to bury the company, and he found that unforgivable.

But if a guy takes with him the WWF's ability to make money in the lean times, Vince sees it as the guy leaving and not caring if there is no WWF to return to a few years down the line.

I find that theory ridiculous. Do you honestly think a major company like Slim Jim lets its celebrity spokespeople have any input whatsoever as to where they spend their advertising budget? Vince isn't an idiot, he knew Macho had nothing to do with that.

As to what actually happened, the simplest explanation makes the most sense. Randy told Vince he was going to resign with WWF, and than went to WCW anyway. End of story.

It's not that Macho has any sway over corporate sponsors.

It's that Macho did the advert. Slim Jimss bought wrestling TV advertising space in the 1990s. So any time Slim Jim bought advert space in the middle of a WWF TV show, they would have been indirectly advertising WCW, simply from the fact Macho Man was on the commercial, and he was WCW.

This meant WWF could not sell advertising space to Slim Jim any more. Vince was still running the company policy at that stage of "Never acknowledge the competitors".

Your theory that Macho Man left after saying he would stay flies to some degree, but when you look at the huge number of guys who have left on worse terms - from Warrior to Hogan to Bret - and then they have come back and done business? There WAS something else to it than that.
